Position Description

Goodfellow Bros. (GBI) is a large heavy-civil contractor with operations throughout the West Coast & Hawaii. GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are now seeking to add to our team. We are looking for a Construction Technology Engineer to join our team in Kihei, Maui, HI.

Position Summary

The Construction Technology Engineer develops 3D positioning data sets, performs engineering analysis, and supports the region’s fleet of GPS guided equipment and survey devices. The Construction Technology Engineer works closely with the project teams to provide technical support, maintenance and training on the use of GPS equipment in the field. This position is also responsible for assignment, delivery and tracking of assigned equipment.

Position Description

  1. Analyzes information gathered from site inspections, contract drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation.
  2. Participates in preconstruction evaluations to identify potential risks.
  3. Performs earthwork quantity studies and supports estimating as needed with various take-offs.
  4. Participates in the project procurement process, including material buy out, submittals, and the pursuit of value added substitutions.
  5. Uses Autodesk Civil3D and Trimble Business Center to develop surfaces and linework for guided machines and survey devices. Verifies that the data issued to the field is accurate, constructable and per plan.
  6. Identifies conflicts and resolves ambiguity in the engineer/owner’s design. Works with Project Engineers and Project Managers to generate RFI’s that address plan inconsistencies.
  7. Updates model data when provided with revisions from Project Managers or Project Engineers.
  8. Maintains organized file system following established naming/versioning conventions.
  9. Builds machine cards in Trimble Business Center.
  10. Creates exhibits to assist in the planning or execution of the work.
  11. Performs drone flights of projects for topographic survey and quantity calculations.
  12. Prepares as-built drawings from topographic data collected on the job site.
  13. Must be able to travel up to 30% of the time.

Position Requirements

Required Education, Experience, and Technical Knowledge

  1. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the US without employer sponsorship.
  2. 1-5 years of general civil construction experience.
  3. Strong knowledge of surveying, machine guidance systems, construction plans, drafting, and jobsite signals.
  4. Proficient in construction math, including geometry, algebra, and trigonometry for measurement, calculations, and forecasting.
  5. Strong understanding of estimating processes with effective negotiation skills.

Education

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration or equivalent work experience.

Certifications / Licenses

  1. Valid driver’s license, and clean driver’s abstract is required.
  2. FAA Part 107 Drone License (Must be obtained within 90 days of employment).

Computer Skills

  1. Advanced user of 3D modeling programs such as Trimble Business Center or Autodesk Civil3D
  2. Must have computer experience using MS Office product suite and Outlook.
