Mechanical Design Engineer – Power Systems
Location: Marietta, OH
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: Starting at $60,000 annually, with higher compensation available based on experience
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development, enhancement, and customization of power distribution and power protection equipment. This role will contribute to product design, prototype development, engineering documentation, and continuous product improvement while collaborating with multiple departments throughout the organization.
The successful candidate will work on products such as switchboards, power distribution units (PDUs), and power panels while helping deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet customer requirements and manufacturing needs.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Design & Development- Support the mechanical design and documentation of new and existing power protection products.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, models, and related documentation.
- Participate in the development of switchboards, power distribution units, power panels, and related equipment.
- Assist in delivering projects on schedule while maintaining quality and design standards.
- Support product customization, lifecycle management activities, engineering change notices (ECNs), and product optimization efforts.
- Work closely with engineering, production, supply chain, service, and other departments to support successful product development.
- Participate in design reviews and verification activities, providing feedback and implementing approved design changes.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure products meet technical, operational, and customer requirements.
- Communicate project status and technical information effectively across departments.
- Design and release prototype assemblies and components.
- Support prototype fabrication and evaluate results.
- Lead improvement efforts following prototype testing and fabrication activities.
- Assist with testing processes and support design validation efforts.
- Contribute to test fixture design when required.
- Manage smaller engineering projects with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate engineering tasks, schedules, and deliverables to meet project objectives.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product performance and manufacturability.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Knowledge of power protection equipment, power distribution products, or data center infrastructure.
- Experience interpreting and applying electrical safety standards such as UL and IEC requirements.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience using SolidWorks CAD software.
- Experience with thermal analysis and structural evaluation.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Knowledge of:
- Sheet metal design
- Detail part drawings
- Assembly drawings
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles
- Technical writing experience.
- Experience designing test fixtures and supporting product testing.
- Familiarity with switchboards, power distribution units, UL 891, UL 508 panels, or related electrical equipment.
- Strong mechanical design and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate engineering deliverables.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple functional teams.
- A proactive approach to product improvement and engineering excellence.
- Interest in developing innovative solutions for power distribution and protection equipment.
