We design, build, operate, and sell stratospheric balloon systems. The data we collect supports a wide range of applications, from real-time wildfire monitoring to urban mapping. Our technology is also employed by government customers including the Department of War (DoW), NASA, and others. Urban Sky sends flight vehicles to the stratosphere on a weekly basis.

About the role
As Urban Sky rapidly scales, our information technology systems are becoming more critical than ever to the success of our missions. We’re looking for a hands-on IT Support Engineer to help continue building a modern, secure, and compliance-ready IT environment that enables our teams to operate quickly, safely, and effectively as we launch stratospheric flight vehicles on a weekly basis.
You’ll split your time between daily hands-on support and the implementation work required to mature our security and compliance posture. The role is for someone who is energized by greenfield work building infrastructure where none exists yet, not only maintaining systems that are already in place.
Urban Sky supports customers and use cases that demand high trust and strong security. As part of this team, you’ll help operationalize the discipline and technical rigor required for high-security, compliance-driven environments including government standards such as CMMC 2.0 and NIST 800-171 while operating at the pace of an aerospace startup.
Day One Responsibilities
From your first day, you will focus on being a reliable, responsive point of contact for employee IT needs, keeping day-to-day systems running smoothly, and stepping into the implementation work required to harden our security posture.
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 IT support for employees, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Support Windows and macOS workstations across a mixed fleet
- Own the daily ticket queue
- Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including device setup, account provisioning, and access removal
- Manage and support users in Microsoft 365
- Track, tag, and reconcile IT assets, including provisioning and spares management
- Implement CMMC controls and build the supporting evidence documentation
- Document procedures, fixes, and known issues to build out a scalable IT knowledge base
- Learn Urban Sky’s systems, security posture, and operating environment quickly enough to act independently
Responsibilities You Will Develop Into
As you ramp up and gain familiarity with Urban Sky’s infrastructure, you’ll take on broader implementation, security, and potentially broader scope. This role is designed to grow with the company. The right candidate will be excited to expand their technical depth over time, while maintaining a strong foundation in user support and operational excellence.
- Lead implementation of CMMC controls and evidence collection
- Take increasing ownership of user lifecycle management, device configuration, and access controls
- Build out the repeatable onboarding catalog: hardware spec, software stack by role, device management profiles, identity groups, communication channels, badge access
- Maintain on-site networks, conference room AV, and building security systems
- Participate in the build-out and growth of the IT department, with the option to take on supervisory responsibilities as the team scales.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on IT support experience, ideally in a small-team or startup environment with limited established process
- Deep working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem across identity, device management, collaboration, data protection, and endpoint security
- Troubleshooting experience in a mixed-fleet environment
- Experience implementing security controls and building evidence documentation against frameworks such as CMMC 2.0, NIST 800-171, or equivalent
- Strong written communication: capable of producing runbooks, KB articles, and compliance evidence that hold up under assessment
- Comfort working in ambiguity, able to self-direct work, prioritize independently, and ship pragmatic fixes before formal process exists
- Positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to take on projects that would typically be done by larger teams
Nice-to-Haves / Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting IT infrastructure for the US Government or in a defense contractor environment
- Prior experience supporting environments that handle controlled US Government information (CUI)
- Certifications related to IT and security: Security+, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent
- Prior experience mentoring or leading junior technicians

- Must be a US Citizen or equivalent work authorization (Permanent Resident or otherwise eligible to access controlled US Government information).
- Must be located near Denver, CO or willing to relocate. This role is on-site at our office at 4800 Race St., Denver, CO.

The pay range for this role is:
95,000 - 115,000 USD per year(Denver CO HQ)
