Job Description

Knox College invites applications for the position of Manager of the Keiner Letterpress Studio.

This is a part-time, 9-month position.


The manager reports to and works under the regular supervision of the Director of the Creative Writing Program.

The Manager for the Keiner Studio is responsible for operations, management, and

promotion of the letterpress facility in CFA. The manager will learn the proper use of the letterpress equipment in order to oversee and facilitate its use for student projects. Under the daily supervision of the Director of the Program in Creative Writing, the manager supports activities connected to the letterpress in the Department of English, in particular, Prairie Moon Press' broadside series. The manager provides support to faculty who seek to incorporate the letterpress into new and existing courses. The manager is also expected to reach out to the campus community, solicit jobs from campus organizations, and otherwise promote the work that is done in the Keiner Studio.

Job qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. The shop manager will be required to maintain the highest levels of safety, cleanliness, and organization, with respect to every facet of press operations.

Previous experience in any of the following will be of relevance: printmaking, design, publication, use/maintenance of simple machinery.

Ability to work and communicate successfully with a diverse academic community with respect for multiple perspectives and approaches.

Purpose:

The Manager for the Letterpress Project is responsible for operations, management, and

promotion of the letterpress facility at The Box.

Key Responsibilities:

The studio manager will learn the proper use of the letterpress equipment in order to oversee and facilitate its use for student projects.

Under the daily supervision of the Director of the Program in Creative Writing, the manager supports activities connected to the letterpress in the Department of English, in particular, Prairie Moon Press' broadside series.

The manager provides support to faculty who seek to incorporate the letterpress into new and existing courses.

The manager will also promote and sustain the presence of letterpress activities on campus.

The manager trains and supervises new apprentices to the shop, overseeing their projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Previous experience in any of the following will be of relevance: printmaking, design, publication, use/maintenance of simple machinery.

The studio manager should maintain the highest levels of safety, cleanliness, and organization, with respect to every facet of press operations.

Minimum Education Required:

A bachelor’s degree.



Summary Pay Range: Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience. Please note that pay is only one component of total compensation.
