Purchasing Agent

About this Role:

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for support and procurement operations across our electrical construction projects across the US. The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for ordering and expediting electrical materials and equipment, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring job sites have the right materials on time and at the right cost.
The Purchasing Agent role is central to keeping field crews supplied and projects running on schedule, and calls for strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and a solid working knowledge of electrical materials and construction supply chains.

Duties / Expectations:
  • Source and place purchase orders for electrical materials, equipment, and supplies (conduit, wire, boxes, fittings, fixtures, shop supplies, etc.) to meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Obtain and analyze competitive quotes for material requisitions.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and coordinate deliveries.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new supplier.
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure reliable, cost-effective sources of materials and equipment.
  • Monitor pricing trends and market conditions; identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage field, receiving and inventory control, including maintaining minimum/maximum stock levels on bulk materials.
  • Coordinate with site management and laydown yard/warehouse personnel to ensure proper receiving, staging, and storage of materials.
  • Track order status and delivery dates, expediting shipments as needed to avoid project delays.
  • Resolve vendor-related issues involving quality, billing, delivery, or returns.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, invoices, and vendor contracts; ensure all purchases comply with company policy.
  • Partner with project managers and superintendents to understand material requirements and coordinate procurement accordingly.
  • Reconcile invoices/statements and related expense documentation on a regular basis.
  • Track and report key procurement metrics to support cost control and continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional purchasing and procurement duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Additional Duties
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • 3+ years of purchasing, material ordering or procurement experience within the electrical, construction, or industrial related industries.
  • Working knowledge of electrical materials, equipment, and supplies (conduit, wire, boxes, fittings, fixtures, etc.)
  • Strong negotiation, vendor management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with procurement/ERP software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple purchase orders and deadlines at once.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with project managers, field teams, and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Purchasing, material ordering background in commercial retail new construction and remodel projects.

  • Spanish language skills a plus.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds and, infrequently, up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and in virtual meeting environments.
  • Ability to use a computer, tablet, smartphone, and other office equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond to emergency service situations, critical customer needs, or extended work hours during peak periods when business demands require.

Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment. The role requires regular interaction with employees, clients, vendors, and business partners.

Travel throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth market and occasionally nationwide may be required for client meetings, project and service operations, team leadership, and site visits.

Standard work hours are Monday–Friday; however, the nature of the role may require flexibility in work hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on business, client, or operational needs.
Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn when visiting jobsites.
