Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for a Director, Finance to join our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Office.

The Director, Finance is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership of the Finance function, ensuring the financial stability, integrity, and long-term sustainability of the Business Unit (“BU”). The Director, Finance plays a key role in driving commercial decision-making, managing financial risks, and supporting long-term business growth.

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Strategy and Leadership

  • Lead development and implementation of financial strategies to support the Business Units’ business objectives.
  • Contribute to business planning and growth strategy discussions at BU Leadership Team level acting as the principal adviser/business partner to the BU MD.
  • Provide financial modelling and scenario planning to support key strategic decisions.

Financial Management and Control

  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including financial accounting, management reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure effective financial controls, systems, and policies are maintained in line with Group policy and external regulatory requirements.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes with full accountability for the BU P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and working capital performance.
  • Ensure all elements of reporting to the Operating Group and Corporate Group are delivered on time and to a high standard that meets key stakeholder expectations.

Project and Operational Finance

  • Collaborate with project and operational management to ensure accurate project costing, budget monitoring, and profitability tracking.
  • Provide commercial finance guidance on bids, tenders, capital expenditure and investment decision, and contract terms.
  • Monitor project margin and cost performance and escalate variances where necessary together with recommended remediation actions.

Compliance, Audit and Risk

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory financial requirements, including relevant Corporate and Taxation authorities.
  • Coordinate annual audit activities relevant to the BU and liaise with external auditors.
  • Identify and manage financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • Promote a high-performance culture and support professional development.
  • Ensure appropriate workload distribution and process efficiency across the team.

QUALIFICATIONS AN EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in Finance management / leadership roles
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • High business acumen including partnering with financial and operational stakeholders.
  • Sector experience in engineering, manufacturing, project-based industries is considered highly desirable
  • Ability to lead multi geography teams and operational experience in a matrix-based organisation structure.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, IFRS, and compliance standards
  • Excellent financial modelling and analysis skills
  • Commercially astute with the ability to assess and communicate business impact
  • High proficiency in financial systems and Excel; experience with ERP or accounting software (e.g. NetSuite)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills
  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail
  • Adaptable and proactive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
  • Resilient, dependable, and values-driven
