The Senior Backend Software Engineer will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of APIs and distributed systems within a fast-paced, product-driven environment.
The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, data engineers, and data scientists to deliver robust and scalable solutions.

This is a remote position based in Canada, within a globally distributed and technology-forward engineering team.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs supporting high-traffic applications
• Contribute to the architecture and evolution of distributed systems ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features in an agile, fast-moving environment
• Build and maintain robust unit and integration testing frameworks to ensure code quality and stability
• Work with relational databases, including schema design, optimization, and complex SQL queries
• Develop and support cloud-based systems and services, particularly within AWS or similar environments
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical mentorship of other engineers
• Contribute to system performance tuning and troubleshooting across production environments
• Engage with streaming and event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka or similar tools

• 3+ years of experience in backend or software engineering roles using object-oriented languages such as C# or Java
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles including OOP, RESTful API design, and system architecture
• Experience working with relational databases and designing efficient schemas and queries
• Familiarity with distributed systems and cloud computing environments (AWS strongly preferred)
• Experience with data streaming technologies such as Kafka or similar event-driven systems
• Strong testing mindset with experience building unit and integration test suites
• Ability to write scalable, high-performance, and maintainable backend code
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
• Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
• Exposure to performance-focused languages such as Rust is a plus
• Familiarity with AI development tools is considered an asset
