Job Description

Senior Power Systems Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer in the United States.

This role is a senior technical leadership position focused on advancing the reliability, performance, and modernization of large-scale electric power grids. You will lead complex transmission and bulk power system studies, providing critical insights that shape grid planning and operational decisions. The position combines deep analytical engineering work with client-facing responsibilities, requiring strong collaboration with utilities, system operators, and industry stakeholders. You will also mentor and guide junior engineers while ensuring high-quality delivery of steady-state, dynamic, and transient stability analyses. Beyond technical execution, you will contribute to methodology development, process improvements, and advanced grid modeling initiatives. The role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge challenges in renewable integration and grid transformation. This is a high-impact position where your expertise directly supports the development of a more resilient and sustainable power system.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and execute advanced bulk power system studies using tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, and TARA.
  • Perform steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic/transient stability analyses to support transmission planning and grid reliability.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to electrical engineers, guiding analysis methods and study execution.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for identified system constraints, grid issues, and operational risks.
  • Conduct specialized studies such as sub-synchronous resonance and other advanced grid stability assessments.
  • Review and develop transmission planning methodologies, study processes, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with clients, system operators, and stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate technical findings.
  • Ensure project delivery aligns with quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance engineering efficiency and analytical capabilities.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposals and technical discussions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on power systems preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in power systems engineering and grid analysis.
  • Strong hands-on experience with steady-state and dynamic system studies.
  • Proficiency in industry tools such as PSS/E and TARA, with familiarity in other simulation platforms.
  • Strong understanding of transient stability, system reliability, and bulk power system behavior.
  • Knowledge of U.S. power markets and ISOs/RTOs (e.g., PJM, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO, SPP, WECC, SERC, NEISO).
  • Experience with PSCAD or EMT studies is a strong plus.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills for client-facing reports and presentations.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high technical and delivery standards.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and expertise.
  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance (with 100% premium coverage for employees).
  • Generous PTO policy and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) plan with up to 4% employer match, fully vested from day one.
  • Employee ownership program (MyShare) offering long-term value participation.
  • Flexible remote or hybrid work arrangements depending on role and location.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge grid modernization and renewable integration projects.
  • Collaboration with industry-leading experts in power systems engineering.
