Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Fire Protection Engineer in United States.
This role sits at the intersection of advanced fire protection engineering and next-generation energy infrastructure, with a strong focus on battery energy storage systems and complex utility-scale projects. You will act as a technical expert and trusted advisor, supporting the design, evaluation, and compliance of fire safety systems across highly regulated environments. The position involves working on cutting-edge energy projects that require deep knowledge of fire dynamics, hazard mitigation, and regulatory frameworks. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, regulators, insurers, and project stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and optimized system designs. The role also includes conducting advanced modeling and risk assessments to support engineering decisions and approval processes. It is a highly impactful position that directly contributes to the safety and resilience of critical energy infrastructure across the United States.
- Lead the design, evaluation, and analysis of fire protection systems for energy infrastructure projects, including battery energy storage systems and related facilities.
- Perform fire and life safety risk assessments, including hazard mitigation analysis (HMA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and fire modeling studies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable fire safety regulations and standards such as NFPA codes, UL 9540, UL 9540A, and local authority requirements.
- Review system designs, fire detection and suppression strategies, ventilation systems, and emergency response plans for regulatory and technical compliance.
- Conduct advanced fire modeling and simulation using tools such as CFD and NIST-based fire dynamics models to assess fire, smoke, and gas behavior.
- Provide technical expertise on fire protection strategies, suppression systems, and hazard mitigation for complex energy storage environments.
- Coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), fire marshals, insurers, and emergency responders to support approvals and safety planning.
- Develop and update emergency response and fire safety plans for high-risk scenarios such as thermal runaway events.
- Support project development by preparing technical documentation, proposals, and engineering deliverables for client and regulatory submissions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate fire protection solutions into civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural designs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Science, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in fire protection consulting, including at least 5+ years in energy infrastructure or battery energy storage system projects.
- Active Fire Protection Engineer licensure required.
- Strong expertise in NFPA codes, California Fire Code, UL standards, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Experience conducting fire hazard analyses, modeling, and risk assessments for high-risk or industrial environments.
- Proficiency in fire modeling tools, including NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and other CFD-based platforms.
- Strong understanding of fire suppression systems, detection technologies, and thermal management principles.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills for regulatory documentation and client-facing presentations.
- Ability to engage with regulators, AHJs, and external stakeholders to support project approvals.
- Preferred certifications include Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) and membership in relevant professional associations.
- Experience with AutoCAD and familiarity with GIS-based fire risk analysis preferred.
- Competitive annual salary ranging from $140,000 to $165,000 depending on experience, education, and location.
- Hybrid or remote work flexibility with occasional project site visits as required.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Opportunity to work on high-impact energy transition and infrastructure resilience projects.
- Professional development opportunities, including exposure to advanced fire modeling tools and cutting-edge energy technologies.
- Employee-owned company structure promoting long-term engagement and shared success.
- Collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on sustainability and public safety.
- Equal employment opportunity workplace committed to inclusion, fairness, and professional growth.
