Director Origination - MISO/SPP

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director Origination - MISO/SPP based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to lead business development initiatives within the renewable energy sector, focusing on the MISO and SPP markets. The successful candidate will drive the identification, development, and execution of new renewable energy opportunities, helping expand a growing portfolio of solar and energy storage projects. As a key commercial leader, you will manage strategic relationships with utilities, municipalities, commercial entities, and other energy stakeholders. You will play a central role in negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), shaping market strategies, and advancing clean energy solutions. Working across development, finance, engineering, legal, and operations teams, you will influence projects from early-stage origination through execution. This position is ideal for an experienced renewable energy professional passionate about accelerating the transition to a cleaner energy future.

Accountabilities:

The Director Origination will be responsible for building and expanding renewable energy business opportunities across the MISO and SPP regions. This position requires a strategic, customer-focused leader who can identify market opportunities, develop partnerships, lead negotiations, and represent the organization with external stakeholders.

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive insights within the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar and battery storage solutions.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities by engaging utilities, municipalities, commercial and industrial customers, energy cooperatives, and other renewable energy buyers.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including utility executives, government representatives, developers, and industry partners.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to strengthen market presence and create new partnerships.
  • Lead customer discussions and negotiations, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), pricing discussions, and commercial agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create proposals, presentations, financial models, and business strategies aligned with customer needs.
  • Partner with legal and finance teams to finalize agreements and ensure alignment with regulatory and business requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for geographic expansion, new customer segments, and emerging renewable energy technologies.
  • Support strategic initiatives that drive portfolio growth and long-term business objectives.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in renewable energy origination, business development, or related commercial roles, with a strong understanding of utility-scale energy markets and project development.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working within renewable energy development, energy storage, utilities, energy, oil and gas, power generation, or renewable energy procurement environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and executing Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) negotiations and managing complex commercial discussions.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. utility-scale solar and energy storage markets, particularly within the MISO and/or SPP regions.
  • Experience with renewable project development lifecycles, project pricing, financial modeling, reporting, and proposal creation.
  • Strong business development, sales, finance, or commercial strategy background is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and budgets.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and develop long-term growth strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% as needed.
