Environmental Waste Analyst (Special Waste)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Environmental Waste Analyst (Special Waste) based in United States.

The Environmental Waste Analyst will play a key role in protecting environmental standards by evaluating waste materials and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
This position supports safe and responsible waste management by reviewing technical documentation, analyzing data, and determining appropriate disposal solutions.
The role combines environmental expertise, regulatory knowledge, customer communication, and operational collaboration.
You will work closely with internal teams and customers to assess waste acceptance requirements and maintain high standards of compliance.

Accountabilities:

The Environmental Waste Analyst is responsible for reviewing waste characterization information, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting efficient special waste management processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with customers and internal teams to deliver accurate and timely waste acceptance decisions.

  • Review submitted special waste documentation, laboratory reports, and analytical data to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations and facility requirements.
  • Evaluate waste profiles and determine acceptance suitability based on regulations, permits, disposal methods, and environmental safety standards.
  • Communicate with customers to clarify waste-related information, address questions, and provide clear guidance throughout the approval process.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather required information, assess disposal options, and prepare waste approval recommendations.
  • Communicate waste acceptance requirements, potential risks, and compliance considerations with sales, operations, and environmental teams.
  • Issue waste approvals according to established policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain accurate databases, records, reports, and statistical analyses related to waste management activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve special waste processes, tools, and workflows through automation and operational enhancements.
  • Develop guidelines for specific waste streams to improve consistency, efficiency, and decision-making.
  • Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulations, company procedures, and industry standards.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to expand technical knowledge and support organizational goals.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, sustainability, compliance, and environmental responsibility.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines environmental knowledge, analytical ability, and strong communication skills to support compliant and efficient waste management operations. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to manage priorities in a collaborative environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 1–4 years of experience in solid waste, environmental services, or a related industry.
  • Understanding of environmental laws, regulations, permitting requirements, and compliance practices.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, analytical data, or regulatory information preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and data management tools.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, sustainability, and environmental protection.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel among regional locations as needed.
  • Advanced degree, environmental certification, Professional Engineering (PE) license, or FE/EIT certification preferred.
