Overall Summary
The Jang Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to study mechanisms of skeletal muscle aging. The successful candidate will investigate muscle stem cells, mitochondrial function, neuromuscular junctions, and the tissue environment that contributes to sarcopenia and frailty. This full-time position combines mentored research with opportunities to develop an independent scientific direction, publish findings, and collaborate across the Orland Bethel Musculoskeletal Research Center.
Duties or Responsibilities
- Design and conduct experiments in skeletal muscle aging and regeneration under the mentorship of Dr. Jang.
- Use relevant approaches such as cell culture, molecular assays, tissue histology, microscopy, quantitative imaging, and functional analysis.
- Analyze and interpret results, maintain accurate research records, and present progress at regular laboratory meetings.
- Prepare manuscripts, conference presentations, and contributions to fellowship or grant applications.
- Work with laboratory members and collaborators and help train students when appropriate.
- Take increasing responsibility for experimental design and project decisions as skills and independence develop, with regular guidance from Dr. Jang.

- Communicate findings and setbacks clearly and contribute to a respectful, collaborative laboratory environment.
- Develop a career development plan with Dr. Jang and review research and professional goals regularly.
- Work toward peer-reviewed publications and presentations, with project milestones set jointly with Dr. Jang.
- Minimum qualifications: A PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field by the appointment start date; research experience in biomedical science; and the ability to design experiments, analyze data, and communicate findings.
- Preferred qualifications: Experience in skeletal muscle biology, aging, stem cell biology, mitochondrial biology, metabolism, or neuromuscular research. Experience with imaging, molecular and cellular methods, animal models, or quantitative analysis is desirable. Approximately one year of prior postdoctoral experience is welcome.
Qualifications
PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in physiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or a related discipline by the appointment start date.
