The Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of a company’s yard, including supervising staff, coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, and ensuring the safety and organization of the yard. This role actively works in the yard doing a variety of daily manual duties including but not limited to moving materials, organizing materials, loading trucks unloading trucks and maintenance work. They are key in ensuring efficient movement of materials and equipment, dispatching, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, and adhering to company policies and safety regulations.

Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited to:

· Any and all general yard work, both organizational and manual in nature

· Coordinating daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery, and personnel

· Manages an accurate inventory and completes daily/weekly/monthly/yearly inventory management activities

· Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members

· Monitor productivity, accuracy, and adherence to procedures

· Ensure proper storage, rotation, and handling of inventory to prevent damage and maintain accessibility

· Oversee and complete timely and accurate loading and unloading of trucks, and staging materials for installation crews

· Lead by example in maintaining a clean, hazard-free yard and safe equipment operation

· Ensure team members are properly trained and certified to operate equipment

· Respond to accidents or near misses in accordance with company incident procedures

· Emphasizing safe use of tools, machinery and equipment while providing training on safety gear and procedures

· Serve as a key point of contact for resolving yard-related service issues

· Support and Build Unified Company Culture.

· Maintains a safe work environment.

· Performs job functions safely at all times.

· Participates in all safety meetings.

· Communicates all concerns or violations to appropriate manager(s) immediately.

· Uses the proper Personal Protective Equipment when performing work duties. Employee wears the proper shoes, glasses, gloves, ear protection, etc. Employee is properly attired to perform their job safely (no loose-fitting clothes, unsafe jewelry, etc.).

· Disposes of waste properly.

· Abides by all local, state, and Federal laws; reads, understands, and agrees to follow the policies outlined in the Company Safety Manual and Company Handbook.

· Demonstrates behaviors aligned with Company’s Core Values at all times.

· Continuous Improvement

· Assists in driving a continuous improvement strategy within the business to result in ongoing incremental gains in quality and efficiency.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • 3 years of experience in a building materials yard, warehouse, or distribution environment
  • Acute attention to accuracy and details
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) a Plus
  • Ability to train, coach, and develop yard team members to meet operational standards
  • Strong working knowledge of building materials, construction supply products, and safe handling practices
  • Ability to foster a respectful and collaborative team environment that prioritizes safety, accountability, and service
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team while holding employees accountable to safety and operation standards
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work outdoors in all weather conditions, and operate heavy machinery
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards in a yard operation environment
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications
    • Google Suite, Salesforce (or comparable CRM system)

Licenses and Certification Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license required with a clean driving record.
  • Forklift Certification
