Department Overview
DCH Perioperative Department has a 26-bay combined day stay and phase 1 recovery unit, along with 10 operating rooms that delivers family center care for patients ranging from neonates to young adult with pediatric congenital conditions that require care for surgical and/or procedural care. The service supports both inpatient and outpatient populations. In our fast-paced clinical environment, we uphold high standards of professionalism and emphasize strong interdisciplinary relationships and cross-department collaboration.
Team members demonstrate expertise in rapid patient assessment, timely clinical interventions, and efficient case turnover, supporting high-quality, streamlined care delivery. Positive family engagement is foundational to our practice. Staff are skilled in developmentally appropriate distraction techniques, comfort positioning, and creating supportive, calming environments that reduce anxiety and enhance the overall experience for pediatric patients and their families.
The DCH Perioperative Department partners closely with Child Life Services to support the unique developmental and emotional needs of the pediatric population. The unit supports 24/7 coverage with both in-house staffing and call teams. Main operations are Monday through Friday from 0530-2230. Function/Duties of Position- Assist with the admitting and discharge
- Obtain accurate vital signs and weight
- Complete all unit specific CNA documentation in the patient’s medical record related to: admissions, daily care, vital signs, weight, intake and output, discharge, etc.
- Assist the patient with any and all basic hygiene, lifting, transport, dietary support, and other personal needs and medical necessities
- Support patient and family centered care
- Report potential compliance problems as outlined in the Code of Conduct
- Model ethical and appropriate behavior, professional standards, compliance, and personal integrity
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of CNA experience in an acute care unit and 1 year experience with children.
- Oregon CNA1 Certification at time of hire
- BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
