Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Enhances patient experience by providing patient centered care that focuses on restoring patient function and preventing disability following disease or injury. Duties include, but are not limited to, patient evaluation, assessment and treatment implementation, with the development of individual patient care plans.
Provides patient centered care that focuses on restoring patient function and preventing disability following disease or injury.
- Evaluates the patient’s functional deficits to identify treatment approach.
- Develops thorough treatment plans using professional judgment and creativity.
- Consults with interdisciplinary team when necessary to determine most appropriate treatment program.
- Reassesses treatment plans, modifying, adapting, and upgrading plans as appropriate in order to achieve the highest functional individual outcome.
- Designs and instructs home programs to patients and families. Documents patient/family understanding of the home program instruction.
- Designs, fits, and obtains adaptive equipment/orthotic devices for use of the adaptive equipment to patient’s appropriate level and diagnosis.
- Maintains standards of patient care as set forth by the American Occupational Therapy Association regarding treatment procedures and professional ethical conduct.
Maintains workload that is consistent with Departmental objectives and maximizes productivity measures.
- Willingly adjusts patient’s load/schedule to accommodate unscheduled patients, unforeseen circumstances or department need.
- Prepares daily work schedule for self with recognition of department, interdisciplinary staff and patients’ needs.
- Maintains appropriate treatment units reflective of Department workload.
- Consistently uses time between patients for department projects, assisting co-workers and documentation.
- Demonstrates willingness/flexibility to perform therapy in various settings.
Maintains complete and accurate records to improve communication between caregivers and support billing practices.
- Promptly acknowledges all patient orders.
- Promptly submits and completes evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries and charges.
- Utilizes appropriate data/terminology, enhancing clear and concise documentation.
- Develops and records objective goals that are functional, obtainable and measurable.
Develops and maintains good working relationship with patients, co-workers and medical staff to further enhance care provided.
- Develops a therapeutic relationship with patient; communicates favorable attitudes in motivating them to desired cooperation and effort in their rehabilitative development.
- Maintains a proper perspective between personal and professional affairs.
- Has an open line of communication with direct supervisor on departmental matters.
- Performs supervisory responsibilities in the absence of Director of Rehabilitation.
- Responds to internal and external customers and follows-up on matters requiring additional attention, in a timely and professional manner.
Promotes therapy profession, self and department to improve professional growth.
- Actively pursues appropriate in-services and continuing educational opportunities.
- Coordinates/conducts educational activities or in-services to staff, nursing, public and students.
- Facilitates program development through departmental projects, development of manuals, forms, records and informational materials.
- Provides constructive feedback as requested on peer reviews.
- Plans a meaningful experience for therapy students by instructing and supervising students in all aspects of clinical experiences. May be a clinical instructor.
- Participates in marketing activities to promote the department, profession and Windom Area Health.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Takes an active role in department or hospital committees.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited program of Occupational Therapy
REQUIRED CREDENTIALS (License, certification, registration):
Must be licensed or license eligible with the State of Minnesota as an Occupational Therapist and is certified with the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certified (CPR)
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Must understand and demonstrate proficiency in all Rehabilitation equipment and be able to
learn and utilize new technology as the state of therapy evolves.
- Knowledge of and ability to determine appropriate age-related patient care protocols relating to
the physical and psychological needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients in
order to provide the highest quality patient care.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to improve interaction between staff and patients.
- Knowledge of basic computer programs; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in order to
implement patient care programs, provide patient education and develop community based
presentations.
- Ability to be flexible and accommodating in order to adapt to changing schedules, patient
needs and department workload.
EMPLOYMENT VARIABLES:
Must work weekdays and some weekends and holidays. Must travel off site as needed.
