Job Description

SunEnergy1 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support preliminary design, design review, and quality assurance of utility-scale solar, substation, and transmission infrastructure. This role will work closely with internal engineering teams, outside engineering firms, and utility partners to ensure projects are designed and constructed to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and code compliance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, hands-on substation and transmission experience, and the ability to manage engineering relationships across multiple concurrent projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform design review of electrical drawings, studies, and equipment specifications, contributing engineering input on up to 30% of overall electrical design
  • Manage and coordinate outside engineering firms to ensure design deliverables meet project timelines, technical standards, and SunEnergy1 quality expectations
  • Conduct quality assurance on electrical installations, including substations, transmission lines, and collection systems
  • Develop and review equipment specifications in support of procurement and construction activities
  • Travel to job sites as needed (up to 20%) to support design verification, construction quality oversight, and field coordination
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, procurement, and construction, to support on-time project delivery
  • Support compliance with applicable utility, NERC, and industry electrical standards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and 5–7 years of professional experience, or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and 3–5 years of professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience with design review, including drawings, technical studies, equipment specifications, and electrical design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to manage and direct the work of outside engineering firms
  • Experience performing quality assurance on electrical installations, including substations, transmission lines, and collection systems
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain PE licensure within one year of hire
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to job sites

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, or renewable energy infrastructure
  • Familiarity with high-voltage substation design (138 kV and above) and protection relaying
  • Working knowledge of interconnection processes, including MISO, PJM, ERCOT, or other regional transmission organizations
