Job Description

The Pipe Helper supports skilled Pipefitters in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of piping systems in industrial facilities, construction sites, and other field environments. This entry-level position assists with material handling, preparation, layout, assembly, and general work activities while learning pipefitting practices and procedures.

The Pipefitter Helper is expected to work safely, follow instructions, maintain an organized work area, and comply with Taurus Industrial Group (TIG), customer, and site-specific safety requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous industrial, construction, mechanical, or pipefitting experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in industrial and construction environments.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, nights, or extended shifts as project requirements dictate.
  • Ability to travel to various project or customer locations as required.
  • Must successfully complete applicable pre-employment and site-access requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic understanding of construction and industrial safety practices.
  • Ability to identify and properly use common hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of piping materials, fittings, flanges, valves, and related components preferred.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic measurements.
  • Ability to learn basic pipefitting terminology, methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions from Pipefitters, Foremen, and other supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Ability to maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Strong attention to safety and surroundings when working around operating equipment and active construction activities.
Essential Functions
  • Assist Pipefitters with the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of piping systems.
  • Gather, transport, stage, and organize pipe, fittings, valves, tools, and other materials.
  • Assist with measuring, cutting, grinding, cleaning, and preparing pipe and fittings for installation.
  • Assist with fitting and positioning piping components as directed.
  • Bolt and unbolt flanges and assist with gasket installation and component alignment.
  • Support the setup and use of pipe stands, supports, rigging, and related equipment as directed by qualified personnel.
  • Operate approved hand and power tools in accordance with training and safety requirements.
  • Assist with demolition and removal of existing piping and components when required.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and remove debris and materials that may create hazards.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Follow all TIG, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in safety meetings, job safety analyses, and pre-task planning as required.
  • Follow instructions and perform work under the direction of experienced Pipefitters, Foremen, and project supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on operational and project needs.
Physical Demands

Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform physical work throughout active industrial and construction sites.

  1. Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain, gravel, concrete, scaffolding access areas, and other industrial surfaces.
  2. Ability to climb stairs and ladders as required to access work areas.
  3. Ability to work at various elevations and in confined or restricted work areas when properly trained and authorized.
  4. Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
  5. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and position tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier items with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment.
  6. Ability to use hands and arms repetitively when handling tools, materials, pipe, and fittings.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in environments with moderate to elevated noise levels.
  8. Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods during scheduled shifts.
  9. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying environmental and weather conditions.
Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in industrial facilities, refineries, chemical plants, power generation facilities, fabrication areas, construction sites, and other field environments. Employees may be exposed to heat, cold, rain, dust, fumes, elevated noise levels, moving equipment, heights, and other conditions typical of industrial construction.

Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolding, elevated work platforms, and confined spaces when properly trained and authorized. Employees must comply with all TIG, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements and wear required PPE.
