Substance Use Disorder Counselor II in Modesto, California at Valley Recovery Resources

The SUD-II provides services, intake, and input for the development of diagnostic impressions in formulating treatment plans for a diverse patient/client base. This individual insures a safe, healthy environment that encourages socialization, empowerment and recovery. This experienced, journey-level position performs under supervision but with much greater independence than the SUD-I. This position is subject to overtime, weekend, holiday and shift work, standby, and callback assignments. The incumbent performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Tasks:
1. Independently leads and/or facilitates groups and individual sessions;
2. Conducts family interviews and participates in counseling activities;
3. Under proper supervision, may assist clients with and chart medications ordered by the Physician;
4. Completes intake information on patient/client;
5. Provides input for the development of diagnostic impressions;
6. Observes patient/client behavior and responds appropriately to crisis, anxiety, panic or other behavioral and physical states;
7. Assists in formulating problem/strength lists and treatment plans or formulates the treatment plans with client input, utilizing age specific considerations;
8. Encourages patients/clients to participate in social and recreational activities and provides direction;
9. Serves as a role model for patient/client in personal hygiene, appearance, and social interaction; and provides guidance to individual clients in recreational or other socializing activities;
10. Monitors client status and reports/charts findings appropriately;
11. Observes and records signs of withdrawal; and
12. Assists Clients with Assisted Daily Living and adheres to policies and procedures.

Additional Tasks:

1. Under direct supervision, may conduct initial screening interviews, schedule appointments, schedule intakes, perform intake assessments and determine the clients ability and eligibility to benefit from the recovery process;
2. Orient clients and families to program rules and expectations;
3. Develop and implement treatment plans to resolve clients problems and needs related to substance use disorders;
4. Monitor, assess and evaluate clients progress in recovery;
5. Maintain knowledge of and communicate/coordinate with community resources and referral agencies;
6. May develop and implement substance abuse education and programming;
7. Utilize case management skills, prepare case notes, records and treatment team presentations;
8. Maintain confidentiality with appropriate communication and reporting when necessary;
9. May transport clients and participate in treatment activities or programs in the community; and
10. Provide follow-up/after care substance abuse services for clients;
11. Act as a resource for, and provide training to, other substance abuse staff within the organization and in the community.

Minimum Qualifications:
PATTERN I: Two (2) years of full-time related experience (voluntary or paid) in mental health, substance abuse, or social service agency, providing direct services for patients/clients; OR

PATTERN II: The equivalent of 15 semester units of college course work from an accredited college in a behavioral science, social science and one (1) year full-time related experience (voluntary or paid) in a mental health, substance abuse, or social service agency, providing direct services for patients/clients; OR

PATTERN III: The equivalent of 30 semester units of college course work from an accredited college in a behavioral science, social science, or related field;
