Transit Scheduler

Role SummaryThe Transit Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling daily transportation services for a public transit system operating under GDOT and FTA guidelines. This position ensures efficient route scheduling, driver assignments, vehicle utilization, and customer service support while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational requirements. The Scheduler serves as a critical communication link between dispatch, drivers, management, maintenance, and passengers to ensure safe, reliable, and on-time transportation services.
Key ResponsibilitiesScheduling & Route Coordination
- Schedule daily transit routes, driver assignments, and vehicle utilization based on operational needs.
- Coordinate trip requests, route modifications, cancellations, and schedule adjustments.
- Monitor route coverage to ensure efficiency and compliance with service standards.
- Assist with same-day trip scheduling and urgent transportation requests.
- Utilize routing and scheduling software systems to manage daily operations.
Driver & Vehicle Coordination
- Communicate with drivers regarding manifests, route changes, delays, breakdowns, and emergencies.
- Verify driver availability, licensing requirements, and compliance status prior to assignment.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel regarding vehicle availability and out-of-service units.
- Monitor staffing levels and notify management of scheduling shortages or operational concerns.
Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate scheduling records, manifests, driver logs, and operational documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GDOT, FTA, ADA, DOT, and company operational requirements.
- Perform additional administrative and operational duties as assigned.
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation scheduling software.
Preferred
- Previous dispatching, scheduling, transportation, logistics, or customer service experience.
- Experience in public transit, NEMT, or transportation operations.
- Knowledge of public transit operations and scheduling practices.
- Understanding of ADA transportation requirements and passenger service standards.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to communicate professionally with drivers, passengers, and management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
