Position Overview

The Student Success Librarian is focused on instruction, outreach, programing & partnerships for the library. The Student Success Librarian is a primary point of direct library and research support for students and faculty across the campus.

Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstruction
  • Design, teach, and assess course-integrated information literacy sessions in collaboration with faculty to infuse critical thinking and research fluency throughout the curriculum.
  • Teach in LIFT, the library's credit-bearing first-year program for first-generation college students.
  • Teach AI literacy — how generative AI tools work, where they fail, how to evaluate their output, and how to use them ethically in academic work. Audiences include students and employees.
  • Support media and multimodal assignments with options including podcasting, video and audio editing, infographic design, and poster design for students presenting at Epic Expo and the Academic Fair.
  • Provide individual research consultations to Earlham students, in person and online; answer reference questions from students, employees, and the wider community; and administer the library's chat support service.
Outreach
  • Conduct vigorous library outreach with campus faculty, students, and staff. Build relationships that bring students into the library, and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Run the library's social media presence and promotional communications.
  • Serve as a library liaison to select academic departments and programs. Select materials for assigned areas.
  • Administer the library's web presence through LibGuides. Create, maintain, review, and retire research and course guides; and lead the remediation project bringing library digital content into conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards ahead of the April 2027 federal deadline.
  • Coordinate with library colleagues to optimize database and discovery interfaces and troubleshoot user-reported problems.
Programming & Partnerships
  • Plan and organize library programming. Coordinate with partners for campus-wide events like New Student Orientation, Earlham Day, and Epic Expo.
  • Partner closely with colleagues in the Library, Information Technology Services, and the Academic Enrichment Center to align student support across the building and to build shared referral pathways.
  • Partner with campus student success units, including academic advising, the Center for Global and Career Education, the McNair Program, and other departments.
  • Represent Earlham in PALNI (Private Academic Library Network of Indiana) working groups and collaborative initiatives. Participate in consortial and professional communities relevant to the position.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in library/information science, or a related field, required.
  • Experience in higher education settings, preferred.
  • Teaching experience, in a library or another educational setting, preferred.
  • Interest in or experience with generative AI tools in teaching, research support, or professional development, preferred.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508), preferred.
  • Experience with LibGuides, content management systems, or web editing, preferred.
  • Knowledge of trends in academic libraries, preferred.
