Senior MMIC Design Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior MMIC Design Engineer based in United States.

The Senior MMIC Design Engineer will develop high-performance RF and millimeter-wave integrated circuits for next-generation satellite communication systems.
You will own designs end-to-end, from architecture and technology selection through schematic development, layout, tapeout, characterization, and integration.
The role focuses on advanced GaAs and GaN technologies, including power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, and RF switches.
You will optimize circuits for demanding requirements across output power, efficiency, linearity, noise, bandwidth, gain, and robustness.
Working closely with RF systems, antenna, packaging, and transceiver IC teams, you will contribute to system-level integration and technology decisions.
The position offers the opportunity to build new MMIC capabilities from the ground up in a fast-paced, high-growth space technology environment.
Your work will directly contribute to high-power satellite platforms designed for missions spanning low Earth orbit through deep space.

Accountabilities:
  • Design and develop high-performance power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, and RF switches using GaAs and GaN technologies.
  • Own MMIC designs across the complete development lifecycle, from architecture and topology selection through tapeout and hardware characterization.
  • Develop circuit schematics and layouts for RF and millimeter-wave integrated circuits.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations of passive structures, matching networks, interconnects, and package or interface effects.
  • Optimize circuit performance across output power, power efficiency, linearity, noise figure, bandwidth, gain, and robustness.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and design approaches for demanding RF and millimeter-wave applications.
  • Conduct RF and electromagnetic simulations to validate circuit performance before fabrication.
  • Develop detailed laboratory test plans for MMIC characterization.
  • Characterize fabricated MMICs using RF and millimeter-wave test equipment.
  • Correlate measured hardware performance with simulation results and identify opportunities for design improvement.
  • Troubleshoot discrepancies between simulated and measured performance and implement corrective design changes.
  • Work closely with RF systems engineers to define circuit requirements and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with antenna, packaging, and transceiver IC teams to enable effective system-level integration.
  • Contribute to architecture trade studies and design methodology development.
  • Help establish and expand MMIC design and development capabilities from the ground up.
  • Support the development of RF technologies for high-power satellite communication systems.
  • Contribute technical expertise to design reviews, development decisions, and product integration activities.
  • Apply rigorous engineering practices throughout design, simulation, tapeout, characterization, and validation.
Requirements:
  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience designing RF or millimeter-wave MMICs using GaAs and/or GaN technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience designing power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, and/or RF switches, with deep expertise in at least one of these areas.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, including impedance matching, stability, noise, linearity, power handling, and nonlinear circuit behavior.
  • Hands-on experience taking RF/MMIC designs from architecture through tapeout and measured hardware validation.
  • Experience with Cadence, Keysight ADS, electromagnetic simulation tools, or equivalent RF/MMIC design environments.
  • Practical experience with RF and millimeter-wave characterization equipment.
  • Familiarity with vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and load-pull systems.
  • Strong ability to analyze measured results and correlate them with circuit and EM simulations.
  • Experience with RF circuit optimization across power, efficiency, linearity, bandwidth, noise, gain, and robustness.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly explain technical decisions and trade-offs.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving technical requirements.
  • Experience building new RF/MMIC capabilities, processes, or methodologies is valuable.
  • Experience with wideband RF and millimeter-wave circuit design techniques is preferred.
  • Experience developing power amplifiers for high-efficiency, high-linearity, and broadband operation is preferred.
  • Experience with Ka-band and higher millimeter-wave frequency ranges is preferred.
  • Familiarity with MMIC packaging, RF module integration, thermal considerations, and antenna or array interfaces is preferred.
  • Experience developing MMICs for phased arrays, satellite communications, aerospace, or other high-reliability applications is preferred.
  • For work involving controlled technical information, candidates must meet applicable U.S. export-control requirements, including being a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR or otherwise being eligible for the required federal authorization.
