Description:

Job Overview:

The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains facility systems that provide heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water, and electricity at Defense Supply Center Columbus. The position monitors system performance, adjusts controls, performs preventive and corrective maintenance, and keeps equipment operating safely, efficiently, and reliably in accordance with work orders, manufacturer guidance, applicable codes, and contract requirements.

Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours as established the Government customer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain one or more facility systems that provide heat, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water, or electricity.
  • Monitor and interpret gauges, meters, charts, alarms, and control-system data that indicate equipment and system operating conditions.
  • Adjust controls and operating parameters to ensure safe, efficient system performance and meet facility service demands.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs and document readings, inspections, maintenance actions, deficiencies, and system status.
  • Inspect engines, machinery, controls, and related equipment; troubleshoot malfunctions and keep assigned systems in good working order.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective repairs in accordance with approved work orders, technical exhibits, manufacturer instructions, and industry standards.
  • Conduct operational checks in mechanical spaces and promptly report or address abnormal temperatures, pressures, liquid levels, alarms, leaks, spills, and other adverse conditions.
  • Support seasonal start-up, shutdown, winterization, freeze protection, and return-to-service activities for heating and cooling equipment.
  • Operate equipment in an energy-efficient manner and identify conditions or adjustments that may affect energy performance or established operating limits.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic control equipment and coordinate with qualified controls, electrical, HVAC, or other trade personnel as required.
  • Direct or coordinate the work of other personnel performing tasks directly related to the operation and maintenance of assigned systems, when authorized.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, hazard-control, PPE, Activity Hazard Analysis, work-area protection, documentation, cleanup, and Government-property requirements.

Competencies:

  • Central plant and building utility system operations.
  • Heating, cooling, refrigeration, steam, and hot-water systems.
  • Gauge, meter, alarm, and operating-chart interpretation.
  • Electronic and mechanical control troubleshooting.
  • Preventive maintenance and root-cause diagnosis.
  • Accurate operating-log and work-order documentation.
  • Safety compliance, judgment, teamwork, and reliability.
Requirements:

Minimum Requirements/Education:

  • Training, knowledge, experience, and skills pertinent to the facility systems and equipment assigned, supported by current manufacturer training or certification from an organization acceptable to the Government.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, monitor, adjust, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on heating, cooling, refrigeration, steam, hot-water, electrical, or related utility systems.
  • One or more applicable HVAC credentials required by the PWS: NATE HVAC Service Technician, HVAC Excellence Professional Level, or UA Star HVAC Mastery certification, together with required continuing education.
  • All licenses and certifications required by applicable federal, state, and local jurisdictions; EPA Section 608 certification is required when assigned work could release regulated refrigerants.
  • Ability to complete required site orientation, safety, security, installation-access and annual refresher training.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience operating and maintaining central plant or building utility systems in a large commercial, industrial, military, or federal facility.
  • Experience diagnosing electronic controls, building automation systems, pumps, motors, boilers, chillers, air-handling equipment, or related machinery.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance or Government work-order systems such as EBS Plant Maintenance.

Security Requirement:

  • Must satisfy installation access and background-screening requirements and obtain and maintain DBIDS credentials and a Common Access Card (CAC), as applicable.
