Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position and is looking for qualified candidates for an Senior Chemical Engineer. The job location is at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head MD.
Scope of Performance: We are seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer to provide technical leadership and process-engineering support for ordnance and defense manufacturing operations. This position will serve as a senior technical resource to operations, manufacturing engineering, quality, maintenance, and program teams, with responsibility for maintaining safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient chemical and manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate will apply chemical-engineering principles to process development, production support, equipment troubleshooting, process optimization, qualification activities, and continuous improvement. The position requires an engineer who is comfortable working directly with manufacturing personnel and translating engineering requirements into practical, controlled production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide senior-level chemical engineering support to day-to-day manufacturing and process operations.
- Develop, review, and improve process flows, equipment arrangements, operating procedures, and process-control strategies.
- Troubleshoot chemical-process, equipment, instrumentation, and production issues and develop technically sound corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, engineering specifications, operating procedures, work instructions, and process-control documentation.
- Evaluate process performance using appropriate engineering data, statistical methods, material balances, process measurements, and production metrics.
- Lead or support process-improvement initiatives involving safety, quality, throughput, yield, reliability, cost, and waste reduction.
- Provide technical direction during equipment installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and modification activities.
- Support investigations of process deviations, nonconformances, equipment failures, and production anomalies.
- Participate in engineering reviews, risk assessments, process hazard analyses, management-of-change activities, and readiness reviews as applicable.
- Ensure engineering changes are appropriately documented, reviewed, tested, and incorporated into controlled production processes.
- Work closely with safety personnel to ensure processes comply with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and analyze process data to identify trends, establish process capability, and improve process control.
- Serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers and manufacturing personnel.
- Interface with program management, quality, supply chain, maintenance, laboratories, and customer representatives as required.
- Support audits, inspections, inventories, and customer/government reviews.
- Coordinate with supervisors, government personnel, logistics personnel, and other contractor personnel to accomplish mission requirements.
- Identify potential safety, operational, or inventory issues and elevate concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience – Required:
- Bachelors’ Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering
- 10 years of experience in ordnance, ammunition, explosives, weapons systems, logistics, maintenance, or a related military/government environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting production or chemical-process operations.
- Experience troubleshooting manufacturing processes and industrial equipment.
- Experience developing technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with operators, technicians, engineers, maintenance personnel, and management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering/data-analysis tools.
- Must be able to successfully complete required background checks and drug screening.
- Ability to receive and maintain a secret security clearance
