The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Villanova University has an opening for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at all levels. Candidates will be considered for Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank commensurate with their education and experience.

The Department is looking for a creative and energetic faculty member that will complement and enhance the Program. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional potential with respect to research, scholarly activity, teaching and service within the Chemical Engineering discipline. Areas of interest include sustainability, advanced materials, systems engineering, computational chemistry, catalysis, energy, process design and optimization, AI applications in Chemical Engineering and other fields relevant to Chemical Engineering. Leadership and/or entrepreneurial experience within an academic, research, industry, or service environment is desired. This position is expected to support and contribute to the strategic plans for Villanova University, College of Engineering, and department of Chemical and Biological Engineering by addressing global challenges that include human health, water-energy-food nexus, environmental sustainability, advanced manufacturing and sustainable engineering. The candidate will also be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The appointment begins in August 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The primary responsibilities include developing and sustaining an internationally recognized research program, collaborating with faculty and staff in the College of Engineering at Villanova and other Institutions, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (both in the core curriculum and on their research expertise).
  • Candidates must also participate in departmental, college, and university service as it contributes to the mission and strategic goals.
  • Supervisor research performed by undergraduate, Master’s and/or Ph.D. students.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in Chemical and/or Biological Engineering or a closely related field
  • A proven ability for high-quality research as evidenced by previous research publications and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in sustainability, advanced materials, systems engineering, computational chemistry, catalysis, energy, process design and optimization, AI applications in Chemical Engineering and other fields relevant to Chemical Engineering.
  • Leadership and/or entrepreneurial experience within an academic, research, industry, or service environment is desired.
  • Teaching experience as an instructor, TA, instructional assistant, or research mentor.
  • Associate Professor candidates are expected to have teaching experience and a previous record of research.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and innovation.
  • Potential to lead an externally funded research program.
  • Experience mentoring others in research such as undergraduate or graduate students.
