Job Title: Communications & Marketing Coordinator
Department: External Relations
Reports to: External Relations Senior Director
Position Status: Part-time
Location: Cambridge, Boston Area (hybrid: in person hours weekly on Wednesdays)
Work Schedule: 15-20 hours per week, flexible scheduling
Salary Range: $30-$40 per hour, commensurate with experience

BARCC Overview
Founded in 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) is the oldest and largest rape crisis center in New England, serving as the only comprehensive center for survivors of sexual violence in the Greater Boston Area. BARCC’s mission is to end sexual violence through healing, empowerment, and social change. BARCC empowers survivors of sexual violence to help find healing and seek justice in ways that are meaningful to them and works to provide education and advocacy needed to create social change and prevent sexual violence. We rely on our dedicated staff to do this important work, and our team is growing!
The External Relations team plays a critical role in advancing BARCC's mission by building the resources, relationships, and visibility necessary to sustain and grow our work. Position Overview
BARCC is seeking a Communications & Marketing Coordinator to support the External Relations team's communications and marketing work on a part-time basis. Reporting to the Senior Director of External Relations, this person will provide hands-on support with content, collateral, and day-to-day communications tasks that keep the team's work moving.
This is a flexible, project-based role well suited to someone building experience in nonprofit communications. The Communications & Marketing Coordinator brings strong writing skills, attention to detail, and comfort managing a few recurring responsibilities independently.
Work Environment
BARCC's staff, operations, hours, and location vary by function, type of work, and work style. This is a part time position at 15-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule. This position is hybrid with in-office hours at our Cambridge office on Wednesdays. Attendance at occasional evening or weekend events at BARCC offices and off-site may be required for this position. BARCC will engage in an interactive process regarding reasonable accommodations.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Marketing support
- Curate BARCC's social media content calendar, scheduling, and day-to-day posting.
- Support production of newsletters and e-mail blasts, including formatting, scheduling, and distribution.
- Lead consistent website updates and maintenance for community-facing and organizational content.
- Support the design and produce collateral for prevention, training, and community engagement efforts (flyers, one-pagers, toolkits) in partnership with External Relations staff.
- Help maintain a shared communications calendar to keep messaging aligned across the team.
Departmental support
- Provide light scheduling, meeting coordination, and reporting support to the External Relations team.
- Support data compilation for board, funder, and organizational reporting needs, as time allows.
- Help surface program stories and community insights that strengthen organizational messaging.
Organizational citizenship
- Model initiative, accountability, and strong follow-through.
- Act as an ambassador of BARCC, reflecting values of inclusivity, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Participate in relevant team meetings as needed.
Physical Requirements & Essential Functions
- The role may involve remaining in a stationary position for periods of time during calls, meetings, and general role responsibilities.
- This role requires the ability to work comfortably with spreadsheets and cloud-based tools.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in communications, marketing, or related coursework (internships considered).
- Strong writing and editing skills, with comfort producing content for varied audiences and channels.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring deadlines independently.
- Ability to work independently while communicating clearly with a remote or hybrid team.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and survivor-centered values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience with social media management, graphic design tools (e.g., Canva), or website content management systems.
- Experience in sexual violence prevention, social justice, or human services organizations.
