JOB DESCRIPTION

Assistant Director of Teacher Education

Status: Full-time; Exempt; Hybrid or Remote

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Teacher Education

Supervises: Online faculty, online course facilitators, and final project advisors

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education, the Assistant Director of Teacher Education provides day-to-day operational leadership for Longy's online graduate teacher education programs, ensuring excellence in faculty coordination, program administration, governance representation, admissions support, and continuous program improvement and growth. The Assistant Director works collaboratively across the institution to keep Longy's teacher education offerings running smoothly while fostering an exceptional student and faculty experience. The ideal candidate will share a passion for music, social justice, teaching artistry, and innovation in higher education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Faculty & Curriculum

  • Supervise all online faculty, course facilitators, and Master Final Project advisors.
  • Recruit and recommend faculty, course facilitators, and masters final project advisors; recommend candidates to the Deans; onboard new hires.
  • Coordinate bi-annual faculty meetings, lead faculty development opportunities, develop and maintain a faculty evaluation process, and oversee retention efforts.
  • Standardize online teacher education practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and refine online course curricula and syllabi.
  • Design and teach professional development sessions, both online and in person, for beginner through advanced music educators.
  • Serve as primary instructional designer for online courses; identify and adopt key technology tools and LMS platforms as needed; develop and maintain quality assurance measures for online program offerings.

Student Affairs & Retention

  • Assist with student retention and career advancement; create pathways to connect with and support alumni.
  • Serve as the primary student affairs support for all online students, holding regular office hours, attending community happy hours, administering wellness checks, providing career coaching, and serving on Longy’s CARE team.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs leadership, Admissions, the Registrar's Office, Library Services, and the Finance Office to strengthen interdepartmental collaboration to support student needs.
  • Serve as Longy's credentialing officer for online students and alumni.

Recruitment & Marketing

  • Serve as an active recruiter for Longy's online programs, driving enrollment growth across the full music education portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean and Director of Admissions to develop recruitment strategy; execute strategic priorities for recruitment, and communicating with prospective applicants and answering questions
  • Represent Longy at conferences and through publications.
  • Collaborating with Marketing to support content marketing and social media efforts by creating and editing videos, publishing blogs, etc.

Other Responsibilities

  • Foster an atmosphere of inclusion and belonging in every student interaction, so that every student has equitable access and treatment.
  • Provide project management processes for strategic initiatives, partnerships, and programs to advance institutional goals in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • Assign students to Masters Final Project advisors, oversee projects towards completion, and serve as the faculty of record for all projects; advise projects as needed.
  • Plan and execute supplemental professional development and recruitment events, such as Summer@Longy and the Changemakers series.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean with accreditation alignment and documentation.
  • Attend administrative staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in music education or a related field required; Doctoral degree preferred
  • Experience with accreditation and program management
  • Demonstrated record of professional achievement, including journal publications, conference presentations, teaching experience, and/or recruitment and program representation at state, regional, or national conferences
  • Minimum of 3 years of higher education experience with expertise in teacher education
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to engaging inclusively and equitably with a diverse student body
  • Ability to take initiative and perform multiple assignments concurrently in a timely manner
  • Strong working knowledge of online learning management systems and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and to work independently
