Director – RWJBarnabas Health, Children’s Specialized Hospital

At Children’s Specialized Hospital, the Director of Speech and Feeding plays a critical role in advancing clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and comprehensive care for children across the continuum of care. Working directly with the AVP of Therapy Services and as a member of the interdisciplinary Clinical Director Team, this leader guides the clinical mission, vision, quality, and growth of Speech Therapy and Pediatric Feeding Programs. The Director provides clinical leadership, program development, education, mentorship, and oversight to promote consistency of care and positive patient outcomes across inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, and intensive feeding programs.

A typical day for a Director may include:

• Leads the clinical mission, vision, and quality initiatives for Speech Therapy and Pediatric Feeding Programs across the organization
• Partners with the AVP of Therapy Services and interdisciplinary clinical and operational leaders to align program goals with hospital and organizational priorities
• Provides strategic leadership for the Pediatric Feeding Program and supports comprehensive service delivery and program expansion across the continuum of care
• Leads the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical practices, identifying barriers to successful practice and developing solutions that promote quality and positive patient outcomes
• Analyzes clinical outcomes and practice effectiveness and recommends quality improvement initiatives and changes based on current evidence and organizational needs
• Oversees the quality and consistency of clinical evaluations, goal development, treatment, discharge planning, and documentation through ongoing review and monitoring
• Facilitates Speech and Feeding Leadership Team meetings to promote communication, collaboration, and consistency across sites and service areas
• Provides clinical expertise, mentorship, and guidance to staff working with diverse pediatric populations across interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teams
• Leads the development and delivery of clinical education, orientation, competency programs, performance improvement initiatives, clinical pathways, and practice guidelines
• Develops educational materials and provides training related to clinical practice, documentation, billing, policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and organizational initiatives
• Oversees program development and collaborates with operational leaders on budgeting, marketing, and growth initiatives for Speech Therapy and Pediatric Feeding Programs
• Supports clinical mentorship and student experiences, including the Clinical Fellowship program and other professional development opportunities
• Manages the Therapy Clinical Ladder Program and provides input to program leaders regarding clinical performance and professional development
• Provides leadership and direction to the Director of Intensive Feeding Program Operations, Feeding Program Intake Coordinator, Feeding Program Manager, and Feeding Developmental Screening Programs
• Ensures departmental and program policies and procedures remain current, relevant, and aligned with evidence-based standards and regulatory requirements

To be considered for this Director opportunity:

• Holds a degree and active New Jersey license in Speech-Language Pathology and meets all requirements of the profession
• Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 7 years of pediatric experience in Speech Therapy and Feeding; 10 or more years of pediatric experience preferred
• Supervisory and/or mentorship experience preferred
• State or national professional exposure in a related field preferred
• Deep knowledge of pediatric interventions and therapeutic modalities
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, leadership, presentation, and organizational skills
• Must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
• Must maintain American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification
• Must maintain an active New Jersey license
