Electrical Lab Technician (Low Voltage)

Department: ID3 – Engineering / Electronics
Reports To: Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering

Position Summary

ID3 is seeking a skilled Electrical Lab Technician (Low Voltage) to support the assembly, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of low-voltage electrical systems used in custom experiential exhibits, trade show displays, retail environments, and interactive installations. This role works closely with engineering, fabrication, and production teams to ensure electrical systems are built to specification, meet quality standards, and perform reliably in both the shop and the field.

The ideal candidate has experience with 12VDC–48VDC systems, control panels, LED lighting, power supplies, sensors, and cable assembly, and enjoys hands-on work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assemble and wire low-voltage electrical systems, control panels, and custom electronic assemblies.
• Build and terminate wiring harnesses, connectors, and communication cables.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
• Test electrical systems for continuity, voltage, functionality, and safety.
• Troubleshoot electrical and wiring issues using diagnostic equipment.
• Install and configure:
  • LED lighting systems
  • Power supplies
  • Relays
  • Switches
  • Sensors
  • Controllers
  • Low-voltage distribution systems
• Perform quality inspections to ensure assemblies meet engineering specifications.
• Assist engineers during prototype development and product testing.
• Document testing results, modifications, and engineering changes.
• Maintain inventory of electrical components and laboratory supplies.
• Support manufacturing during production builds and customer installations.
• Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and electrical best practices.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical degree or certification in Electrical Technology, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
• 2–5 years of experience assembling or troubleshooting low-voltage electrical systems.
• Experience working with:
  • 12VDC–48VDC electrical systems
  • Power supplies
  • LED lighting
  • Low-voltage controls
  • Electrical wiring and cable fabrication
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience using electrical test equipment including:
  • Digital multimeters
  • Continuity testers
  • Power supplies
  • Clamp meters
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, exhibit fabrication, themed entertainment, or custom production environments.
• Familiarity with:
  • DMX lighting systems
  • Ethernet/IP communications
  • PLC I/O
  • Arduino or Raspberry Pi
  • CAT5/CAT6 wiring
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
• Soldering experience and certification.
• Knowledge of NEC low-voltage standards and electrical safety practices.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, bend, kneel, and work at benches for extended periods.
• Perform repetitive hand and wrist movements for wiring and assembly.
• Distinguish wire colors and identify small electrical components.
• Occasionally work on ladders or elevated platforms during equipment installation.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing and electrical laboratory environment.
• Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
• Exposure to soldering equipment, wiring, and fabrication processes.
• Occasional travel may be required to support installations or field service.
