Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for general maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment. This involves troubleshooting to pinpoint underlying issues and determining appropriate repair measures, often with reference to building blueprints or equipment manuals. This position will conduct thorough tests on various parts and systems to ensure optimal mechanical performance, documenting all work undertaken, and maintaining meticulous maintenance records. Additionally, they will ensure the upkeep of shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform small repairs, periodic service, and maintenance on plant and fleet equipment including oil changes, fluid samples, grease fittings, safety guards, etc.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical operations.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, overhead hoists, and cranes safely and effectively.
- Keep inventory of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) supplies.
- Ensure facilities, equipment, and fleet are in accordance with company, federal, state and local standards and regulations.
- Weld, cut, and grind fabrications for machine guards and repairs.
- Plow snow and salt walkways as necessary.
- Fill, grade, and top-dress roadways with stone and gravel, as needed.
- Conduct walkthroughs and inspections of equipment and grounds. Make repairs or corrections as necessary.
- Fill in for other positions when needed, including assisting with daily tasks for the office while the Superintendent is away.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Mechanically inclined with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong reading comprehension skills with the ability to understand blueprints, production layouts, work orders, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Working knowledge of industrial hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Proficient with basic math skills. The ability to read and use various measuring equipment, calculate measurements, and accurately record periodic measurements.
- Proficient with using basic maintenance tools (i.e. hand and power tools).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Will be required to perform, pass, and maintain forklift operator and training certification.
- Will be required to perform, pass, and maintain aerial lift training and certification.
- Flexibility with schedule – ability to cover a variety of shifts and be on-call when needed.
Education and Experience:
- HR Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Previous maintenance work in manufacturing setting
- Previous welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Previous forklift and overhead crane experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in a manufacturing setting and may be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, and extreme noise. Must be comfortable working at varied heights.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, walk, run, sit, bend, squat, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, and reach with hands and arms.
- Perform repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to hear and understand verbal instructions, alarms, and other auditory signals.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds regularly, and less than 50 pounds routinely.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and a financial and motor vehicle background check.
- Ability to travel as needed.
The base hourly pay for this position is $23/hr - $30/hr.
