About the Program: The Art Program at Yawkey strives to provide youth members with
fun activities, supportive relationships, creative opportunities, and recognition. Our studio is equipped with the tools and supplies for both 2D and 3D art forms and is always open to new ideas! Youth "members" have a chance to visit the Art Room during after-school rotations, as well as sign up for arts-focused evening programs. Community partnerships with both the MFA and Vivo Performing Arts offer members opportunities to explore & shine creatively throughout the school year, as well.

Position Description:
The MassArt Student hired for this position will

  • Assist in working alongside youth ages 6-12 in a variety of programming options reflective of the Boys & Girls Club of Boston Arts Program.
  • The Assistant will be asked to assist Club staff in running individual programs and activities, such as arts-focused evening programs, between 6-8 pm on weeknights.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction for members working on artwork for our end-of-year showcases.
  • Secure, maintain, and monitor materials, equipment, and other resources belonging to the program area(s). Maintain a safe and clean program area.
  • Supervise and discipline members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as deemed appropriate. Club staff will be present in the Art Room and available for support.

Qualifications:

The Massart Student hired for this position will have:

  • Knowledge of a variety of visual arts techniques and theory, especially digital illustration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience or interest in youth work and art education.

Support / Supervision:

The MassArt student hired for this position will be supported and supervised by the Art Program Manager and/or Department Supervisor at the Yawkey Club of Roxbury and will be considered part of the Fine Arts Team during their time there.

Work Schedule:

The Yawkey Club can be flexible and will accommodate the student's availability during our program hours: Monday-Friday, 4:00 pm-8:00 pm

Expected Work Hours per Week:

4-10 hours / week

Wage:

$15 / hour

PLEASE NOTE:

This position is part of the PartnershipWORKS program offered through MassArt's Center for Art and Community Partnerships (CACP). If you are hired for this position, you will become a member of the team at your community site AND a member of the CACP student cohort. You will have two supervisors, one through your host site and a second through CACP.

The requirements for holding a PartnershipWORKS position through CACP are:

  • Commit to your position for the entire academic year (fall + spring semesters)
  • Participate in monthly PartnershipWORKS sessions throughout the year, facilitated by CACP staff
  • Complete time sheets in a timely manner, every two weeks
  • Provide photo documentation of your work at your host site
  • Thoughtful completion of all CACP evaluations
  • Maintain communication with CACP staff regarding any challenges and/or successes related to your experience at your host site
