What You Will Do:
The Transportation Design Intern will support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects while gaining hands-on experience working alongside engineers and project teams. This role provides exposure to roadway, highway, traffic, and transportation improvement projects and the opportunity to develop technical and professional skills in a collaborative environment.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with the design and preparation of plans for transportation projects, including roadways, highways, intersections, trails, and related infrastructure.
- Supporting engineers with design calculations, cost estimates, traffic analyses, and technical evaluations.
- Assisting in the preparation of reports, specifications, permit applications, and other project documentation.
- Reviewing engineering drawings, plans, and technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design standards.
- Participating in project meetings, site visits, field observations, and data collection activities.
- Collaborating with engineers, designers, planners, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality transportation solutions.
- Supporting project coordination, research, and the development of design alternatives.
- Assisting with the use of industry software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other transportation design tools.
- Learning transportation design standards, engineering practices, and project delivery processes while contributing to active projects.
- Supporting the development of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems for public and private clients.
What You Will Bring:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering program from an accredited university.
- Entering Junior or Senior year of study at the time of the internship.
- Interest in transportation design, roadway engineering, traffic engineering, highway design, or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or other transportation design software is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, drawings, and technical documents.
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Eagerness to learn transportation design standards, engineering principles, and project delivery processes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record preferred.
