Description:

This position must support the Die Cast Molding/Casting, CNC Machining, and other skilled trained teams’ efforts to keep a continuous flow of high-quality castings through the plant and to the customer by accurately providing and reporting the significant aspects of the visual, dimensional, and process information available. This position must promote a predictive, not reactive, maintenance philosophy by taking a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and quality. Support and promote plant wide safety, housekeeping, and follow established guidelines for visual management.   • This position oversees shift production and support group activities to produce high-quality aluminum die castings following established procedures and work instructions.
  • This position contributes directly to the manufacturing goals in a highly participatory environment and must be able to assume the Manufacturing Manager responsibilities as required.
  • Responsible for performance evaluation, disciplinary action, training and supervision of production department employees.
  • This position directly supervises employees on assigned shift in the Die Cast and Machining Departments.
  • Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and/or disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Focus on the production of quality castings and the effectiveness of the departments.
  • Meeting daily, weekly, and monthly quotas as established by the Manufacturing Manager.
  • Providing hands-on direction and support for production, machining, or support skilled trade departments in the resolution of problems.
  • Evaluating department procedures and work instructions, revising/creating if needed; to ensure high efficiency, effectiveness and utilization as well as employee safety.
  • Ensure production department employees receive training necessary to perform established and/or new policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Evaluate performance, encourage production personnel, make recommendations for promotions, training requirements and disciplinary action.
  • Schedule shift activities, assign work, and coordinate individual efforts to insure the production and machining of high-quality castings.
  • Schedule overtime coverage as required following established guidelines.
  • Check rework area daily view containment log for problems and address with appropriate operator.
  • Continually monitor the status of each machine and be prepared to inform Manufacturing Manager at any time.
  • Ensure each employee reporting to you manages their time effectively to complete repairs, quality checks, etc. efficiently.
  • Use daily production and machining reports as a tool to identify and address causes of high scrap and downtime.
  • Monitor process compliance and address with appropriate operator when process is not followed.
  • Ensure reverb and holding furnaces are cleaned and maintained to the established standards.
  • Manage housekeeping by visual management to the established standards in all production areas.
  • Meeting budget expectations regarding labor costs, scrap, and waste.
  • Ensure accuracy of all production reporting methods.
  • This position will be responsible for Die Cast Leads, Die Cast Operators, Furnace Operators, Machine Team Leads, and Machine Operators.
  • This position will also indirectly be responsible for Quality Technicians, CNC Machine Technicians, Process Technicians, Toolroom Technicians, and Maintenance Technicians.
  • Lead Technicians will be trained for success planning and be encouraged to step in for the supervisor during time of absence.

Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from four (4) year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience – preferred
  • Two (2) to five (5) years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment - preferred

Required Skills & Experience

  • Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Computer literate to read, write, and reply to e-mail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and standardized work.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Confident in presenting to groups of customers or employees.
