Position Information


The Athletics Academic Specialist is responsible for using professional concepts and practices to support, develop, and counsel student-athletes in various sports programs on specific learning skills and styles while promoting an environment of academic excellence and fostering student success and retention. The incumbent will monitor and enhance the opportunity for progress towards a degree, graduation, and continuing eligibility in accordance with UCR, Big West Conference, and NCAA regulations.This recruitment is for two (2) part-time, less than 1,000-hour positions.The salary range for this position is $54,183.60 - $91,350.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time.  Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Offers of employment are dependent on completing a misconduct disclosure and potential background check.

Minimum Requirements
Basic knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills.
Basic skill in evaluating tutor performance against program standards.
Basic knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Basic ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.
Basic skills in judgment and decision-making.
Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems.
Basic knowledge of learning theories and training models.
Basic problem solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students.
Basic knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific).
