The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing supervision, support, and guidance to individuals receiving services in a community-based residential setting. This role promotes safety, independence, personal growth, and community integration while implementing individualized support plans and therapeutic interventions.
The DSP assists with daily living activities, medication administration, transportation, and documentation while working collaboratively with clinical and residential teams to help individuals achieve their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct support and supervision in accordance with each individual's Person-Centered Individual Support Plan (ISP).
- Encourage and assist individuals in achieving personal goals and desired outcomes.
- Complete required documentation accurately and timely.
- Administer medications in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Provide transportation to appointments, activities, and community resources.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including:
- Personal hygiene
- Meal preparation
- Household tasks
- Toileting and self-care support as needed
- Support community integration through participation in recreational, social, and vocational activities.
- Assist individuals with accessing community resources, medical appointments, Social Security services, and other supports.
- Implement residential interventions and behavioral support strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Specialized Teams Empowering People (STEP) is a supervised community-based residential program that serves adults with mental health challenges and forensic histories. The program utilizes evidence-based and innovative rehabilitation strategies focused on:
- Community and personal safety
- Accountability and responsibility
- Skill development and independence
- Least restrictive alternatives
- Normalization and inclusion
- Due process and individual rights
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license.
- Basic computer proficiency, including email, electronic documentation, and timekeeping systems.
- Ability to pass all required employment screenings, including FBI fingerprint clearance.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field.
- Previous experience working in human services, behavioral health, or developmental disability services.
