Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer (Assembly SOP - Standard Operation Process) is a critical technical role within the new Silicon Valley AI Rack NPI Center. Reporting to the ME Manager, this engineer is responsible for designing, defining, and optimizing the physical assembly processes for highly complex, next-generation L11 AI server racks. The role focuses on developing robust manufacturing process flows, conducting DFM/DFA analysis, introducing assembly fixtures, and ensuring that the transition from NPI to Mass Production is efficient, safe, and meets strict quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process Design & Optimization: Design and establish the Standard Operation Process (SOP) and Process Flow Charts (PFC) for the assembly of high-density L11 AI racks, optimizing cycle time and production efficiency.
- DFM/DFA & NPI Execution: Conduct DFM/DFA reviews with R&D, participate in NPI prototype builds, perform root cause analysis (RCA) on mechanical failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Tooling & Fixture Development: Identify requirements and collaborate with vendors to develop specialized assembly tools, lifting mechanisms, and fixtures for safe handling of heavy AI racks.
- Documentation & Standardization: Create clear, highly accurate Work Instructions (WI) and operator training materials, and establish error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) mechanisms to prevent human errors.
- Continuous Improvement: Support ongoing lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste, improve ergonomics, and enhance overall yield rates on the assembly line.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field required.
- Master's degree is a plus.
Experience:
- Industry Experience: 4 - 7 years of experience in mechanical process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or NPI within the electronics industry, with direct experience in server/rack-level assembly (L10/L11/L12) strongly preferred.
- Technical & CAD Proficiency: Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD) for fixture design, with a strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, metal fabrication, and electromechanical integration.
- Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with liquid cooling systems (such as manifold assembly and quick disconnects) and complex server cabling is highly advantageous.
