Job Description

Riggs CAT

Description:

Riggs Cat Power & Energy is hiring EPG Commissioning Technicians to start up standby, emergency, and data center generator systems. You'll bring new installations online, run acceptance and load-bank witness testing, and troubleshoot controls, paralleling, and switchgear before handover. An electrical or controls background is required, and we invest heavily in your certification.

This is our most certification-intensive field track. It's built on the full Cat Electric Power progression plus startup-specific controls training, and skills are validated through formal Cat skills assessments, not just course completion. During startup, you'll often be the technical point of contact on the client's site.

What you'll do

  • Stand up data center and standby/emergency power systems, including sequencing, load transfer, paralleling, and acceptance testing
  • Program and troubleshoot EMCP 4.x, ECS 100 and ECS 200 controls, paralleling controls, and engine control units using Cat ET
  • Commission automatic transfer switches and switchgear, including paralleling switchgear on multi-genset data center sites
  • Lead site acceptance and load-bank witness testing with the client during handover
  • Isolate faults on generators, engines, controls, paralleling, and ATS/switchgear using schematics and electronic service tools
Requirements:

What you bring

Required

  • Electrical or electronics background (industrial electrician, controls technician, or equivalent military or trade training)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control system logic
  • Willingness to travel for extended classroom training and on-site startup events

Nice to have

  • Exposure to standby power, UPS, or data center critical power environments
  • Direct experience commissioning standby or data center power systems
  • Cat Electric Power I, II, and III (CEP I/II/III), or similar OEM training
  • EMCP 4.1/4.2 and 4.3/4.4 Controls; Cat Energy Control System (ECS) 100/200
  • ATS Foundations and switchgear / paralleling switchgear training
  • Familiarity with Cat ET or equivalent diagnostic software

How you work

  • Strong troubleshooting instincts under live, deadline-driven conditions
  • Comfortable leading client-facing acceptance testing
