Job Description

Electrical VDC Constructability Specialist

About the Role

As Electrical VDC Constructability Specialist at SJS VDC, Inc., you will play a critical role in ensuring our electrical construction models and deliverables are accurate, coordinated, constructible, and ready to support field installation and prefabrication.

This role requires a strong understanding of electrical construction practices and the ability to review models through the eyes of someone who has experience building electrical systems in the field. You will work closely with VDC Project Leads, modelers, production teams, and project stakeholders to identify potential issues, improve model quality, and ensure deliverables meet project requirements.

Your primary responsibility will be to identify problems before they reach the field, reduce rework, and help ensure that our models provide practical solutions that support efficient electrical installation.

Why Join Us

At SJS VDC, Inc., we are looking for team members who embody our core values: Dedication, Hunger, and Respect. We value integrity, open communication, and honesty. We work hard, support one another, and take pride in delivering quality work. If that sounds like you, continue reading!

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control reviews of electrical construction models, shop drawings, and other VDC deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Evaluate models for constructability, installation feasibility, accessibility, clearances, routing, support requirements, and practical field execution.
  • Apply electrical construction knowledge to identify issues that may not be obvious from drawings or model geometry alone.
  • Review electrical systems, including conduit, cable tray, equipment, feeders, branch circuits, supports, and other modeled components, for proper coordination and installation requirements.
  • Verify that modeled systems align with contract documents, approved drawings, specifications, coordination requirements, and applicable project standards.
  • Review models for consistency with electrical construction practices, including routing strategies, bend and pull considerations, equipment access, installation sequencing, and prefabrication requirements.

Qualifications

What We Expect

  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods and field installation practices.
  • The ability to look at an electrical model and determine whether the modeled systems can realistically be installed, coordinated, and built.
  • A detail-oriented approach to reviewing models and identifying errors, omissions, conflicts, and potential construction issues.
  • Strong understanding of electrical drawings, construction documents, equipment layouts, routing, supports, and installation requirements.
  • The ability to communicate technical feedback clearly and professionally to modelers, Project Leads, and project stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset focused on preventing problems, improving quality, and reducing field rework.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple reviews and competing priorities.
  • A collaborative approach to problem-solving, coaching, and continuous improvement.

What We Require

  • Strong experience in electrical construction, electrical installation, electrical detailing, or electrical VDC/BIM.
  • Strong understanding of how electrical systems are installed and coordinated in commercial, industrial, institutional, or other complex construction projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical construction drawings, specifications, details, schedules, and related documentation.
  • Experience identifying constructability issues, installation conflicts, and coordination challenges.
  • Familiarity with electrical modeling and coordination workflows.
  • Ability to review 3D models and construction deliverables for technical accuracy and practical installation requirements.
  • Ability to document findings, communicate required corrections, and verify that issues have been resolved.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an electrician, electrical foreman, general foreman, superintendent, electrical detailer, or electrical VDC professional.
  • Proficiency with Revit; experience with Navisworks, Revizto, AutoCAD MEP, or other BIM/VDC coordination tools is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of prefabrication, electrical shop drawings, conduit routing, cable tray, electrical supports, and equipment installation.
  • Experience reviewing coordinated models for constructability and field readiness.
  • Experience developing QC (Quality Control) processes, checklists, training materials, and modeling standards.

Compensation & Benefits

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401K, and FTO (Flexible Time Off).
  • Flexible work schedule supporting work-life balance.
  • Support for continued training and professional development.
  • Opportunities for career growth and advancement.
  • The opportunity to apply real-world electrical construction experience to improve modeling quality and construction outcomes.
  • A collaborative team environment focused on reducing rework and delivering reliable, constructible electrical VDC models.
  • This position can support remote work or work at our Battle Creek, MI office.
