Practice Lead, Payments & Financial Infrastructure

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Practice Lead, Payments & Financial Infrastructure based in Canada.

This is an exciting opportunity to build and scale a payments and financial infrastructure practice at the intersection of digital commerce, fintech, and AI-driven innovation.
You will lead go-to-market initiatives, strengthen strategic technology partnerships, and turn emerging opportunities into repeatable, revenue-generating service offerings.
Working closely with sales, delivery, and external partners, you will help enterprise clients modernize payment experiences, optimize transaction performance, and unlock new growth opportunities.
The role combines hands-on payments expertise with commercial leadership, executive engagement, and business case development.
You will facilitate strategic workshops, translate complex payment challenges into actionable roadmaps, and demonstrate measurable business value to senior stakeholders.
As a key contributor to a growing practice, you will help shape service offerings spanning payment modernization, billing, marketplaces, and AI-enabled commerce.
This is a remote-first position for professionals based in Canada, with travel of up to 25% for client workshops and partner events.

Accountabilities
  • Practice development and go-to-market strategy: Build and execute a joint go-to-market strategy with strategic payments partners, identifying target accounts, developing co-selling opportunities, and coordinating partner-funded engagements.
  • Service offering development: Create, package, and launch scalable payments solutions covering payment migrations, checkout optimization, marketplace payments, billing, and emerging AI-enabled commerce experiences.
  • Pipeline generation and sales enablement: Collaborate with account executives to develop account plans, generate qualified opportunities, organize joint events, produce thought leadership, and equip internal teams with effective sales messaging, qualification frameworks, and demonstrations.
  • Executive workshops and client engagement: Lead paid executive workshops and assessments that bring together commerce, finance, payments, and IT stakeholders. Translate findings into prioritized roadmaps, clear ownership, and actionable recommendations that lead to follow-on projects.
  • Business case development: Build compelling ROI models and financial business cases based on authorization rates, processing costs, fraud and dispute losses, conversion rates, and cost-to-serve improvements. Present findings in a way that supports investment decisions and partner co-investment.
  • Solution architecture and delivery support: Participate in discovery sessions and sales pursuits as the payments subject-matter expert. Collaborate with delivery teams and partner solution architects to shape solutions, define project scope, contribute to proposals and RFPs, and provide expert guidance on implementations.
  • Commercial performance management: Track and report on partner-sourced pipeline, co-sold opportunities, closed revenue, billable delivery, workshops conducted, and new offerings launched. Use performance insights to refine targeting, improve service offerings, and strengthen the practice over time.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Build strong relationships with partner organizations, client executives, sales teams, and technical delivery specialists to ensure commercial strategies align with client needs and implementation capabilities.
  • Innovation and continuous improvement: Explore AI tools, automation, and emerging agentic commerce models to improve productivity, accelerate delivery, and identify new opportunities across the payments ecosystem.
Requirements
  • Professional experience: At least 5 years of experience in the payments industry, ideally within a payment processor, acquiring institution, fintech company, or consultancy delivering payments programs.
  • Go-to-market expertise: Demonstrated experience collaborating with technology partners and clients on commercial pursuits, strategic partnerships, co-selling initiatives, and revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Payments knowledge: Strong understanding of payment performance and optimization, including authorization and decline management, processing costs, tokenization, fraud prevention, disputes, payouts, and reconciliation.
  • Hands-on technical expertise: Practical experience with Stripe Payments, Stripe Connect, or Stripe Billing. Candidates with strong payments expertise and limited Stripe experience may also be considered, with opportunities to develop platform-specific knowledge.
  • Financial and analytical capabilities: Proven experience developing ROI models or business cases that support investment decisions. Ability to interpret merchant performance data and explain how payment processes affect profitability, margins, and conversion.
  • Executive communication: Confidence facilitating workshops and engaging senior stakeholders, including finance, commerce, and technology leaders. Strong presentation, storytelling, and business writing skills are essential.
  • Commerce and enterprise integration knowledge: Understanding of how payment systems integrate with commerce platforms, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and broader digital ecosystems.
  • AI and automation proficiency: Comfortable using AI tools in day-to-day work, with an interest in applying automation and emerging agentic commerce technologies to business and operational challenges.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience with additional payment platforms or technologies such as Adyen, Stripe Radar, Stripe Tax, multi-processor routing, B2B payments, agentic commerce protocols, commercetools, Shopify, Mirakl, SAP, or NetSuite is an asset. Familiarity with French or Spanish is also beneficial.

Candidates should be motivated to build a new practice, develop trusted partnerships, and take ownership of measurable outcomes.
  • Location and work authorization: Must be based in Canada and legally eligible to work remotely in the country.
