We're seeking an experienced, versatile Fabricator in our Roxana, IL location to take on upfitting work and new apparatus builds — from aluminum fabrication and structural welding to running wiring and installing the equipment and electrical systems that put pumpers, aerials, tankers, and rescue units into service.
If you're a skilled fabricator who can MIG and TIG weld aluminum, work from a build plan, and wire in what goes on a truck — and you take pride in building apparatus that first responders count on — this is a great opportunity to grow your career building and upfitting emergency vehicles.
What You'll Do
- Fabricate, assemble, and upfit new fire and rescue apparatus from build specifications, as well as modify and retrofit in-service units
- MIG and TIG weld aluminum (and steel) for body components, compartments, brackets, mounts, and support structures
- Run, route, and terminate 12V wiring for flashlight and radio chargers, scene and compartment lighting, emergency warning devices, and control circuits
- Install mounted equipment including pumps, tanks, hose reels, tool boards, compartment shelving, and cab and body accessories
- Read and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and build sheets, partnering with Service Managers and the shop team on build approach and scope
- Inspect, test, and document completed work to confirm quality, safety, and compliance with customer specifications
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in welding, fabrication, or automotive electrical preferred
- 3+ years of fabrication experience preferred, ideally in emergency vehicle, truck body, or specialty vehicle upfitting and builds
- Proficient MIG and TIG welding on aluminum required; steel fabrication experience a plus
- Hands-on 12V/DC electrical experience — running wiring, making clean terminations, installing lighting and chargers, and using a multimeter to troubleshoot
- Ability to read blueprints and build specs and work independently through multi-step builds with strong attention to detail
- Must provide and maintain a basic set of personal hand tools; welding certification and OSHA/general safety training preferred
