Pay varies by position and is based on multiple factors including labor market data and, depending on position, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and/or certifications. Additionally, Sportech takes into account the internal equity of current employees when considering compensation. Sportech’s reasonable and good-faith estimate for new hire compensation at the time of posting for this position is $28.00 - $32.00 per hour. Pay may also include variable compensation from time to time such as overtime for non-exempt positions, shift differential for specific shifts, and/or bonus targets (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
Job Summary
The Tooling Technician supports production by building, modifying, troubleshooting, and maintaining tooling, fixtures, and production equipment. This role bridges the tool room and production floor, ensuring tooling solutions are safe, repeatable, and production-ready. This position also supports CNC machining operations within the tool room. The ideal candidate can independently set up and operate CNC equipment and, depending on experience, may assist with program edits or light programming.
Essential Job Functions
- Build, modify, and maintain new and existing production tooling, fixtures, and jigs.
- Support the transition of tooling from design through production implementation.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement continuous improvements to support safety, quality, and throughput.
- Fabricate components using manual and CNC machining, welding, drilling, grinding, and forming processes.
- Set up and operate CNC machines, including part fixturing, tool setup, offsets, and first-piece validation.
- Make basic CNC program adjustments as needed to support tooling changes and continuous improvement (programming experience is a plus, not required).
- Work with steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and copper materials.
- Coordinate with Operational Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to support launches and ongoing operations.
- Safely operate shop equipment including hand tools, drill presses, saws, grinders, and overhead cranes.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Follow documented processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to pass forklift training and safely operate a forklift.
- 2+ years of experience working in a tooling, fabrication, or machining environment.
- Experience operating CNC machines; able to set up jobs independently (fixtures, tools, offsets).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and basic CAD/CAM outputs.
- Welding experience with steel and aluminum (TIG or MIG).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word).
- Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Experience using shop tools and equipment safely and correctly.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities in a manner consistent with Sportech’s mission, values, and standards of conduct.
