Job Description Summary

The Designer contributes to the design team by developing and executing projects from concept through production. Working with minimal supervision, this role creates new design concepts and derivatives of existing patterns, ensures accurate color matching, and manages specifications throughout the production process.

The Designer collaborates closely with design, operations, and quality control teams to support clear communication and seamless project hand-offs. They demonstrate strong technical knowledge, a commitment to quality, and a willingness to continuously refine their skills and contribute to process improvements.

Job Responsibilities
  • Engage in ongoing professional development by supporting and participating in the company’s continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage time and prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines while maintaining design quality.
  • Utilize CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and internal ERP systems to complete assigned design tasks.
  • Interpret blueprints, templates, AV and A&D floor plans with a clear understanding of scale, layout, symbols, and terminology.
  • Accurately color match yarns to coordinating fabrics and materials while adhering to established tolerances.
  • Create derivatives of existing patterns to fulfill design requests for custom orders.
  • Develop new design concepts within budget parameters and customer-provided scope, with occasional support from the Design Manager.
  • Participate in design projects of increased complexity from concept through production with moderate supervision (examples include shaped pieces, site templates, and stairs).
  • Support Senior Designers and Design Managers on complex projects and initiatives.
  • Support and guide Junior Designers as needed.
  • Collaborate with design and operations teams to determine production methods and ensure accurate specifications for seamless project hand-offs.
  • Partner with production teams, including tufters and quality control, to maintain detailed documentation of specification and project changes throughout the manufacturing process with minimal guidance from the Design Manager.
  • Conduct quality control checks with minimal supervision to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional team members at all organizational levels.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a design-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced understanding of design principles including composition, scale, proportion, pattern repeats, and color theory.
  • Advanced ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and floor plans.
  • Proficiency in CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to maintain quality standards while working within established timelines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of product construction, material limitations, manufacturing processes, and how they apply to daily tasks.
  • Ability to understand and utilize metric reports to track projects.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback with a willingness to learn and refine skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test and accurately distinguish colors for color matching and quality evaluation.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, and crawling to inspect product quality.
  • Ability to move between office, production, and sample areas as needed.
  • Ability to climb stairs in re-file areas.
  • Occasionally lift materials or packages up to 50 lbs.
