The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and student-centered Performing Arts Teacher to join our high school team. The ideal candidate is passionate about education, deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and brings a strong background in theater and performance. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Planning and Instruction
Design and deliver culturally responsive, engaging, differentiated performing arts lessons that support learning in an intentionally diverse classroom and actively engage a variety of learning styles and skill levels
Teach a level Performing Arts course that builds foundational skills for success in IB Group 6 courses, including Theater and Dance.
Utilize data, strong content knowledge, and effective pedagogy to plan clear, objective-driven instruction that advances learning for all students
Teach and reinforce executive functioning and artistic habits, including organization, written reflection, and documentation of the creative process
Classroom Environment
Set clear expectations and consistent routines to create a purposeful, structured, and supportive performing arts environment
Foster student voice, creativity, and risk-taking through performance, collaboration, and original work
Maintain strong classroom management that supports both artistic exploration and high academic expectations
Staff Collaboration
Embody a “Team First” mindset by collaborating across grade level and content teams, participating in professional development, and partnering with the broader school community
Partner closely with the Director of Arts and Athletics and arts colleagues to support the development of a cohesive performing arts program and future IB Theater pathway
Contribute to and support 10+ performances, showcases, and school-wide events throughout the year
Demonstrate a commitment to giving and receiving feedback for continuous personal growth and strengthening the arts team
Caregiver Partnership
Build strong partnerships with caregivers through consistent communication and regular updates on student progress
Use caregiver feedback to continuously improve instruction and the overall learning experience
About You:
You have earned a Bachelor’s Degree (degree in Theater Education, Music Education, or a related field preferred)
You have experience directing performances and/or supporting productions
You have strong classroom management, lesson planning, and organizational skills
You are a collaborative, flexible team player who is open to feedback and trying new approaches
You are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and believe in the power of the arts for all students
You are in the process of earning or have earned a New York Teaching License Certification (Learn more here)
Salary:
The salary range for this role starts at $63,960, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. At Prospect Schools we remain committed to providing competitive salaries.
