This role is ideal for a versatile engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of databases, developer tooling, integrations, and open source.
You’ll help build and maintain drivers, adapters, migration tools, and integrations that make a distributed time-series database easier to use across modern data ecosystems.
Your work will connect database technology with widely used tools and frameworks across analytics, data engineering, observability, and application development.
You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and contribute to projects that are developed transparently in public GitHub repositories.
The position offers broad technical ownership, with opportunities to work across multiple programming languages, protocols, frameworks, and infrastructure environments.
You’ll also engage directly with open source communities and technology partners to improve integrations and solve real-world developer challenges.
It’s a hands-on opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, improving existing software, and shipping high-quality technology used by other developers.

• Develop and maintain database drivers and adapters, including JDBC and Python/SQLAlchemy integrations.
• Build and improve connections between the database platform and external tools such as Grafana, Tableau, and Airflow.
• Develop and maintain internal administrative tooling, including command-line utilities and administration interfaces.
• Improve PostgreSQL compatibility and strengthen integration capabilities across the wider database ecosystem.
• Build and maintain migration tools supporting movement between different database systems and storage formats.
• Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including reference architectures, integration examples, and implementation guidance.
• Collaborate with open source communities and technical partners on joint projects and ecosystem integrations.
• Work directly with product managers to translate technical needs into clear requirements and feasible solutions.
• Take ownership of existing codebases, continuously improving their quality, maintainability, and reliability.
• Debug complex technical issues across different components and systems, taking a full-stack approach where necessary.
• Ensure software components are thoroughly tested, documented, communicated, packaged, and successfully delivered.

• Strong professional experience as a software engineer, with the ability to independently own complex technical initiatives from development through delivery.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• Good working knowledge of Python and Java, with experience in additional languages such as Rust, C++, Go, Swift, or Zig considered an advantage.
• Understanding of technical standards, protocols, and APIs, particularly technologies such as HTTP, PostgreSQL Wire Protocol, Python DB API, and JDBC.
• Experience with Test-Driven Development and a strong commitment to software quality.
• Knowledge of software versioning, packaging, distribution, and deployment in polyglot software environments.
• Understanding of how software components are operated and maintained in production environments.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues across multiple layers of a system.
• A self-directed, hands-on mindset and the ability to overcome technical and organizational obstacles to move projects forward.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, open source contributors, and external technical partners.
• A genuine interest in open source software and collaborative development practices.
• Existing open source contributions are a plus, but are not required.
• Experience with message-bus technologies such as AMQP, Kafka, MQTT, or ZeroMQ and their broker implementations is desirable.
• Knowledge of or experience with DevOps practices and containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
