DSP - Manalapan in Englishtown, New Jersey at GRAHAM HOME SERVICES

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides companionship, support with self-care and activities of daily living. The DSP will have experience working with individuals with disabilities or an interest in the education or healthcare fields. Direct Support Professionals support those in our care to regain and maintain independence through rehabilitation, supervision, behavioral programming, social, and recreational activities.

Direct Support Professionals should have an interest in providing a safe and nurturing environment for clients. DSPs will have an interest in and preferably experience working 1:1 with clients with developmental and intellectual disabilities across educational and community settings. Direct Support Professionals support those in our care in obtaining greater independence through rehabilitation, supervision, behavioral programming, social, and recreational activities.

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

Support individuals with daily life activities, including community outings/recreational events, cooking, cleaning, personal care, skill development, and other activities of daily living.

Travel with individuals to their homes, activities, appointments, and community-based activities.

Ensure individuals are safe, healthy, and living in a clean and supportive environment.

Be comfortable providing hands-on hygiene and personal care.

Pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Maintain excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrate strong positive interpersonal skills.

As a parent advocate, help resolve issues or concerns raised by parents and staff.

Inform parents about daily routines, expectations, or incidents that have been observed and/or recorded on site.

Complete incident reports as needed.

Complete session notes at the end of each session.

Cancel sessions that did not occur prior to the end of the pay period.

Communicate with the BCBA regarding client needs and concerns.

Check the Graham Behavior Services email address daily.

Attend all scheduled sessions, clinics, and trainings.

Maintain open communication with parents, including scheduling home services.

Maintain open communication with the BCBA and other members of the client's care team.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

Ability to develop effective working relationships with clients, staff, and their families.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

While performing the duties of this job, the DSP is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The DSP is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The DSP must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and be able to push items weighing up to 50 pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

Interest in gaining knowledge of behavior analytic principles and applying these principles of ABA to create a safe and supportive environment for the client.

Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks and goals for self and others.

Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals and groups at all professional levels.

Implement individual support plans.

Complete assessments, including data collection.

Complete progress notes and provide services in accordance with all applicable protocols, documentation requirements, and timeframes.

Training/Education Requirements

G.E.D. / High School Diploma

Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle

Current CPR / First Aid Certification
