Job Description
Piping / Mechanical Designer
Magnum is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Mid-Level Piping Designer with 2 to 5 years of industrial plant and/or fab shop experience. In this role, you will work closely with senior designers and engineers to generate 3D models, equipment layouts, and fabrication drawing packages. The ideal candidate has strong foundational skills in the CADWorx suite and a solid understanding of industry codes.
Roles/Responsibilities
Experience Requirements
Proficient in use of following:
Education: Associates degree in Drafting Design or equivalent degree with focus on Mechanical / Piping Design -or- equivalent high school diploma with proven on-the-job experience.
Required Physical Manipulation performed from:
Required Climbing Abilities: To move up or mount stairs and ladders by using the hands or feet as required including, a step stool ladder, 8’ to 10’ ladder, extension ladder and/or stairs of 1-3 or more flights.
Required Ability to Stand, Sit, Walk:
Required ability to walk over terrain conditions:
Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, and/or Crawling:
To bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees as required by job duties 9 plus hours per day.
Reaching, Handling, Fingering, and/or Feeling:
To stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part. To touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching. To touch, lift, hold or operate with the hands as required by job duties 9 plus hours per day.
Roles/Responsibilities
- Use CADWorx Plant to create 3D models of piping systems, inline instruments, structural steel supports, and equipment layouts based on P&IDs
- Generate and update high-quality engineering deliverables including Piping General Arrangements (GAs), orthographics, and Isometrics via Isogen.
- Interpret, draft, and modify Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Extract accurate Material Take-Offs (MTO) and Bills of Materials (BOM) from 3D design software
- Produce all applicable design documents such as Tie-In Lists, Line Lists, Bill of Materials, Scopes of Work, etc. in accordance with Client standards.
- Perform field survey to verify correctness of drawings and determine optimum design.
- Coordinate design activities with other applicable discipline team members.
Experience Requirements
- In-Plant brownfield experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Piping Design practices.
- Ability to work in and foster a strong team environment with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated with ability to originate and adapt.
- Able to execute multiple activities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in use of following:
- Working knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, Word, Project, etc.)
- AutoCAD
- CADWorx Piping Design tools
- Use of 3D scan data to facilitate design (ReCap)
- Navisworks

Physical Requirements:
- This position is primarily in an office environment. However, field investigation of in-plant piping, civil, structural, or mechanical equipment requires the ability to don personnel protective equipment (PPE) such as flame-retardant clothing (FRC), hardhat, safety eyewear, safety footwear, fall protection harnesses or other specialty PPE. Ability to manipulate office materials and/or equipment and occasionally Lift, Hold/Carry 5-10lbs.
