Function of Position:

The Career Peer Advisor (CPA) will assist students and alumni in accessing career resources, promote campus awareness of career development programs, and support the Career Services team in various administrative and outreach activities.

The Career Peer Advisor position is crucial for maintaining an excellent level of service in Career Services. Career Peer Advisors are involved in a variety of ways to provide service to our current students, prospective students and families, and alumni, as well as faculty and staff. Peer to peer support and instruction has been shown to aid in recruitment and retention of students and is considered a high impact practice.

The Career Peer Advisors assist in the following areas:

  • Peer Support

  • Marketing/Outreach

  • Career Services office support

  • Special Projects

This position is funded exclusively through Federal Work Study (FWS). Applicants must be approved by the Financial Aid Office for FWS eligibility prior to being considered for employment. If you are unsure of your FWS eligibility, please contact Financial Aid before applying. Applicants must include their M# in any correspondence with the Financial Aid Office.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Peer Support:

    • Assist students in the Career Library with the use of digital tools, online resources, and printed materials for job search and career and transfer planning.

    • Greet visitors/students/alumni/faculty/staff and respond to questions about the Career Library and Career Services.

    • Help students locate and utilize available resources.

    • Encourage student participation in career development activities and events such as job fairs, transfer fairs, information tables, workshops, and other events.

    • Increase student awareness of career and transfer programs and services.

    • Direct students to appropriate resources and services as needed.

    • Promote the use of online resources and the Career Services and Transfer Services websites.

  • Marketing/Outreach:

    • Assist in publicizing and marketing career and transfer programs (flyers/easels).

    • Assist staff with the setup of workshops and develop and create bulletin boards.

  • Career Services office support:

    • Catalog and maintain materials/handouts in the Career Library and for the Career Services office.

    • Update career, transfer, and employer files.

  • Projects:

    • Engage in various projects throughout the semester such as creating job fair packets, assisting with employer mailings, handing out directories at fairs, etc.

  • Training Sessions:

    • Participate in Career Peer Advisor trainings and meetings.

    • Attend designated career and transfer workshops and programs.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Willing to commit to a full year (2 semesters) unless extenuating circumstances exist.

  • Administrative, communication, media, or graphic design skills.

  • Reliable, trustworthy, and diligent worker.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after appropriate training.

  • Excellent written and communication skills.

  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with others.

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at Monroe Community College

  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be in good academic standing

  • Federal Work Study eligibility is required for FWS-funded positions (must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to hire)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently



Additional Information:

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour

Hours per Week: Up to 20 hours/week

Semester Hiring: Summer
