Job Description

Position Summary:
Reporting to the VP of Lending Business Development, the Assistant Manager, Lending Business Development plays a key role in advancing RSF’s lending pipeline through a combination of relationship management, operational ownership, and cross-functional coordination.

This role is responsible for managing core business development processes, ensuring adherence to lending procedures, and proactively identifying risks and opportunities across the pipeline. The Assistant Manager serves as a key liaison between Business Development, Credit, Loan Operations, and Relationship Management teams to support efficient deal execution and a high-quality borrower experience.

The position requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently while contributing to team-based outcomes. This role also supports performance reporting, process improvement initiatives, and operational effectiveness across the Lending team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development Support and Pipeline Management (50%)
Drive the progression of the lending pipeline, assisting in ensuring opportunities are appropriately assessed, prioritized, and advanced in alignment with RSF lending criteria
Partner with the VP of Lending Business Development on prospecting, outreach, and cultivation of borrower relationships and referral sources
Conduct structured initial deal assessments, identifying key risks, strengths, and considerations, and synthesizing findings into clear recommendations
Monitor pipeline activity and identify emerging risks, trends, or bottlenecks impacting deal progression
Join borrower calls, meetings, and presentations as an active participant, contributing to relationship management, follow-up, and execution of next steps
Maintain consistent adherence to RSF lending policies, procedures, and documentation standards
Actively network within mission-aligned communities and referral partner networks to support pipeline development

Lending Inquiry and Borrower Experience Management (20%)
Own and manage the inbound lending inquiry process through RSF’s website and Salesforce CRM
Manage and prioritize inbound inquiries to deliver a timely, responsive, and high-quality borrower experience across all touchpoints
Maintain accurate, current, and audit-ready records of borrower interactions and pipeline activity within CRM systems
Establish and continuously improve repeatable workflows to enhance efficiency, consistency, and overall process throughput
Engage prospective borrowers consultatively to understand financing objectives and align opportunities with appropriate lending solutions

Deal Execution and Cross-Functional Coordination (20%)
Facilitate the effective progression of deals from intake through closing by coordinating across Credit, Loan Operations, and Relationship Management teams
Ensure alignment across teams by clarifying requirements, surfacing risks, and maintaining visibility into deal status and next steps
Support a seamless and consistent borrower experience throughout the lending process
Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure controls, compliance expectations, and operational procedures are consistently applied

Sales Operations, Reporting and Project Support (10%)
Support budget planning and forecasting aligned to pipeline activity
Own KPI tracking and reporting, ensuring accurate, timely insights into pipeline performance
Translate data into actionable insights to support decision-making
Execute cross-functional projects and deliverables that support business development priorities

Teamwork and Culture:
Operate as a highly accountable team contributor, supporting shared goals and reinforcing a culture of ownership and collaboration
Strengthen team effectiveness through proactive communication, responsiveness, and cross-functional partnership
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance operational effectiveness and team performance

Qualifications and Required Skills:
Required Qualifications
4–6+ years of experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, business development, or portfolio management, with exposure to the full loan lifecycle
Demonstrated ability to assess opportunities, identify risks, and provide clear recommendations to support decision-making
Experience owning workflows or pipelines, with strong execution, organization, and follow-through
Proven ability to coordinate across teams and drive outcomes in a cross-functional environment
Working knowledge of commercial lending policies, documentation standards, and compliance considerations
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights
Ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment
Clear and professional communication skills, with a borrower-focused and consultative approach
High level of accountability, with the ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and CRM systems such as Salesforce
Must be able to work remotely during Pacific Standard Time work hours (if located outside of the West Coast time zone)
Must be available to occasionally work outside standard business hours
Hybrid presence in the Bay Area required 1–2 days per week (if located in Bay Area)

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in mission-aligned or impact investing sectors
Familiarity with both for-profit and nonprofit lending environments
Experience with Salesforce, Sageworks, or similar systems, including reporting and pipeline management
Exposure to process improvement or operational enhancement initiatives
Interest in growing into a role with increasing responsibility for borrower relationships or portfolio management

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $78,000 - $98,000 per year. Final compensation is determined based on the candidate's location, experience, and skills. RSF complies with all applicable state and local pay transparency laws.
