Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Privacy Engineering Director based in the United States.
This is a senior technical leadership role at the intersection of privacy, engineering, and product innovation, focused on building systems that protect user trust at scale. You will lead the most complex and high-impact privacy challenges across consumer-facing products used by millions of people worldwide. The role combines deep technical privacy expertise with strategic influence over architecture, policy implementation, and engineering practices. You will design and evolve frameworks that ensure data minimization, secure AI-assisted workflows, and privacy-preserving system design in emerging areas such as agentic computing. Operating in a highly cross-functional environment, you will partner closely with engineering, product, and legal teams to translate privacy principles into scalable technical solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will also shape organizational standards, mentor senior engineers, and help define the future of privacy-first technology.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of high-complexity privacy engineering initiatives spanning product, infrastructure, and emerging AI-driven systems.
- Design and implement privacy-preserving architectures, including data minimization systems, secure data flows, and scalable privacy controls across products.
- Build and evolve privacy frameworks for advanced use cases such as AI-assisted workflows, agentic browsing, and large-scale data systems.
- Own and improve privacy review, triage, and audit processes, introducing automation and tooling to increase efficiency and consistency.
- Partner with engineering, product, legal, and security teams to ensure privacy requirements are embedded into system design from inception.
- Develop technical solutions that enforce privacy guarantees in areas such as search systems, user data handling, and telemetry reduction.
- Drive cross-functional alignment on privacy strategy while resolving ambiguity in complex, high-stakes product decisions.
- Mentor and grow privacy engineering talent while establishing best practices across teams and domains.
- 10+ years of experience in privacy engineering, privacy reviews, security engineering, or related technical privacy programs in consumer-facing products at scale.
- 4+ years of experience in privacy engineering leadership roles, including building systems, infrastructure tools, or privacy-preserving architectures.
- Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional technical initiatives from definition through delivery with minimal oversight.
- Strong background in designing data minimization systems, privacy controls, and audit/compliance frameworks.
- Experience working with large-scale distributed systems and consumer products serving millions of users.
- Strong ability to translate privacy principles into concrete engineering decisions across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success improving engineering processes through automation, tooling, and scalable governance systems.
- Excellent communication skills with experience influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Passion for privacy, user trust, and building ethical, privacy-first technology systems.
- Prior Director, Head, or equivalent leadership experience with hiring and organizational ownership.
- Competitive compensation of approximately $243,800 USD annually plus stock options
- Transparent, level-based compensation structure across the organization
- Comprehensive U.S. health, dental, and vision insurance coverage (for eligible U.S.-based employees)
- Remote-first work environment with strong flexibility and autonomy
- Paid parental leave and additional wellbeing-focused support programs
- Home office setup support and co-working allowances
- Annual in-person team gatherings and retreats (typically 2 per year)
- Strong culture of ownership, trust, and end-to-end project responsibility
- Inclusive and accessible work environment with accommodations available.
