GOLF PRO SHOP ATTENDANT & STARTER/RANGER
Reports To: Golf Operations Manager
Department: Golf Clubhouse
Status: Seasonal, Part-Time
Pay Range: $20.00 per hour
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Golf Clubhouse Pro Shop is the control center of daily operations. This position will perform duties as both a Pro Shop Attendant and Starter/Ranger. Pro Shop Attendant duties include effective tee sheet management, retail execution, providing accurate information to golfers, and ensuring the best experience for each guest at the highest possible level. Starter/Ranger duties include protecting the flow of the course and enforcing course policies, which require professionalism, calm authority, and strong situational awareness. The Starter/Ranger is responsible for managing first-tee operations when scheduled as the Starter, monitoring pace of play throughout the course when scheduled as the Ranger, both assist guests and ensure daily operational standards are being upheld. Operations are focused on pace-of-play standards, organized tee sheet management, and a professional guest experience from the first tee onward.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Pro Shop Attendant
Golf Operations:
- Execute and manage check-in process and tee time flow. Print tee sheets for all outside services staff and the food truck staff.
- Process green fees, cart fees, and merchandise transactions accurately and with the proper player type.
- Monitor and update tee sheet throughout the day. Communicate updates to the cart staff, food and beverage staff, and starter/ranger staff accordingly.
- Coordinate with cart staff and communicate all operations’ needs.
- Enforce pace-of-play, course policies, and cart curfew standards.
Retail & Merchandising:
- Maintain clean, organized, and full stocked displays.
- Follow the visual merchandising standards.
- Assist with inventory tracking and keeping tabs on top retail performers.
- Resolve guest concerns independently within your abilities.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully.
- Assist with daily opening and closing procedures.
- Complete cash drawer reconciliation and drop cash sales and cash bank in safe at closing.
- Support reporting and operational tasks assigned.
Starter/Ranger
First Tee Management:
- Organize and stage groups accurately according to the tee sheet. Update tee sheet and pro shop staff as necessary
- Ensure tee times are on schedule and begin promptly
- Deliver clear pre-round expectations and welcome to the course (pace, cart rules, course conditions, course rules, and briefly provide a refresher on golf etiquette.)
- Communicate delays or issues with pro shop staff immediately
Pace-of-Play Oversight:
- Monitor spacing between groups throughout the course so that you may identify issues as they arise
- Identify slow play proactively and communicate with correct groups effectively
- Coordinate any adjustments with the Golf Operations team
- Professionally and constructively remind groups of course policy as it applies
- Enforce removal and address outside alcohol beverages as you see them
Guest Assistance and Operational Standards:
- Enforce cart path rules and safety guidelines
- Monitor course conditions and report maintenance issues
- Support tournaments and special events as needed
- Assist with minor cart or equipment issues
- Resolve guest concerns calmly and respectfully within your ability to do so.
- Maintain communication with pro shop and cart attendants
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and support other departments for races, events and operations on high volume days.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong awareness of pace-of-play rules, importance, and tee sheet flow.
- Comfortable giving direction firmly, but courteously.
- Strong attention to detail with prioritizing accuracy.
- Skilled at multitasking in high volume environments.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience with POS systems, cash handling, and customer service.
- Able to work cooperatively with other staff members and take direction from others.
- Able to read and speak English and communicate effectively.
- Actively looks for ways to help people.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to operate a golf cart safely.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Detail-oriented and strong systems minded.
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable.
- Strong team mentality and positive attitude under pressure.
- Weekend and holiday availability is required.
