Job Title: Seasonal Plant Production Employee

Dates: September 21 - April 30
Location: Summit Seed Coatings, 818 Paynter Ave, Caldwell, ID 83605
Reports To: Plant Manager

Position Summary:

This is a full-time seasonal, temporary position, from September 21 through April 30. Employees in this role can expect to work an average of 40+ hours per week during the season. Due to production demands, overtime opportunities are likely; however, overtime is not guaranteed and may vary based on business needs.

The Plant Production Employee is an essential member of the production team, responsible for performing hands-on production tasks to ensure Summit Seed Coatings’ products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards. This role supports daily operations on the production floor, assists with equipment operation, material handling, and record-keeping, and contributes to the smooth workflow of the production line.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate production equipment safely and effectively, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Assist with raw material preparation, measuring, and handling to support production needs.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment; training will be provided to ensure safe operation.
  • Use the sewing machine to securely close bags of seed for packaging.
  • Perform packaging operator duties, including bagging, labeling, and preparing finished products for shipment.
  • Operate the treater and PVOH mixer according to instructions and safety protocols, ensuring consistent product quality.
  • Monitor production processes and report any quality, safety, or workflow issues to the Production Supervisor or Line Lead.
  • Conduct day-to-day preventive maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments, to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including quantities produced, materials used, and any deviations from standard procedures.
  • Support inventory tracking and movement of raw materials, in-process, and finished goods.
  • Participate in cleaning, maintenance, and sanitation of production areas and equipment to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and workflow.
  • Provide support for other production roles as needed to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in production, manufacturing, or warehouse operations preferred; seed or agricultural industry experience a plus.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions, SOPs, and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to work safely.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Experience with production or inventory systems is a plus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Physical & Behavioral Expectations:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in a production environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials or equipment (up to 50 lbs) as required.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to handle seeds, materials, and equipment safely.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively to meet production schedules.
  • Professional and respectful communication style with supervisors and team members.
  • Willingness to follow directions, ask questions when needed, and take initiative to improve processes.
